![]() | Poor Kids! http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/23/foo...eut/index.html I'd be horrifed if this jerk was my dad. I hope Pennsylvania law will treat him as harshly as possible. He is exactly what's wrong with parents today.

| Forte User | And why, I wonder, do things like this happen? Why does a father feel it is so important for his kid to get field time that he feels it necessary to pull a gun on someone? Where did he get the idea that pulling a gun would be an ok thing to do? I can see it now: "Oh. Ok. I'll let Joey go play (even though he never comes to practice) because you pulled a gun on me. And, you can be his hero! And I won't even call the police, because I deserved that." Would he get this upset if he found his kid didn't get first chair in band? Would he pull a gun on someone if Hollywierd did not make it look glamourous to solve everything with a shot to the head or making people feel like heroes rise above the law? What dort of sick and depraved individual is this who cannot separate himeself from the latest shoot-'em-up gangsta movie? Yeah... real heroic. He can really make an impact on his kid's life from behind prison bars. Nice example, Dad! Once again: "Any idiot can have a kid, but you have to have a license to cut hair."

![]() | This is the society that we have created over the last 50-60 years, where the sports heros are gods in our communities and all else is irrelevant. Too many parents see their kid as the next Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, or Emmitt Smith. They plan on living out their dreams through their kids lives, and also getting in on the money when (if) the kid turns pro. Just look at the money and attention thrown at sports from the pee wees on up. How often does a new band shell or concert hall get built? Not nearly as often as the sports upgrades. Now, I don't feel that sports are bad, in fact I have always enjoyed participating in and watching sports, but our priorities are not were they need to be. It is up to each of us to advocate and stress to the powers that be , that while sports should continue, we need to balance it better with all the other realities of life. |
