![]() | Quitting my job Since we are all friends and family here I thought I would share something that has me on edge. I have a very good job where I have worked for sixteen years. When I started with this company it was the best company to work for I had ever seen. I had a lot of offers and I picked this company even though it was for a little less money. In the last two or three years I have seen a big change in management style. They still talk a good game but I see employees being treated poorly. Since I started, the company has just about doubled in size. Maybe that's part of it. Next week I am going to quit. I have accepted a new job. I'm a little apprehensive because, (sixteen years). The new job is for a little less money to start but a chance to make a lot more. Things will be tight for about a year. I hope I don't have to sell the Monett's to eat or burn the fence to stay warm. Thanks for listening. |

![]() | I admire you for the stand you are taking - less money is hard to take. I did the same thing last year. The money is still not great but I'm in a position that makes me happy, and in my case I love my administration and the kids I work with (very different than the business world). I wish you luck. Remember that we are here when you start to think you may have made a mistake. We are here to support you and help you look toward the future! In the end, if you are doing it for the right reasons then I think a year from now you will be a happier person!

| Fortissimo User | Little story here B15.... When I lived in Ontario I had a small "pocket cruiser"... 21' Starcraft that my wife and son and I used to go out on weekends in... I kept it in a marina on the Trent-Severn system. One summer we took a run with it from "our" lake up to Georgian Bay and back... about a 2 week vacation all told. This trip involved a number of canal locks to go through. I'll always remember one lock where the lock was packed pretty full but there was a slot still open at the back/center. A sailboat came puttering up under power with his mast lashed down over the cabin (to go under bridges etc. until he got to Georgian Bay). He came up and looked into the lock and stopped; no doubt wondering if his boat would fit. The lockmaster yelled at him (it was a hot, humid day and if you've ever been stuck in a high-sided canal lock with no breeze and everyone sweating like pigs you'll know what I mean when I say everyone was short-tempered).... "BACK UP AND TAKE A RUN AT IT"! Needless to say we all laughed like hell. The guy tentatively came up and sure enough, his boat fit. I love that line... I think it should be one that we all use once in a while for our lives: If you want to make progress sometimes you have to BACK UP AND TAKE A RUN AT IT. It likely won't take long and you'll find yourself far ahead of where you'd have been if you hadn't taken the chance. |

![]() | B15 - don't you fret. You are going to do just fine. Change is scary, but is also good. I am happy for you and believe in your plan 110%. By the way, we won't let you sell your Monettes or burn your fence, so don't worry. |
