A special tribute to Calvin, Hobbes and the Underappreciated Art of the Snowman

Hello folks,

No snow around here...it's much to warm for January. I hope there will be an opportunity in the future to build a snowman?!?

Here some inspiration

HAH! I really like the snowman who dove into the snow... funny! No snow here, either, but I think I may have ideas for if we ever get some!

Thanks for sharing this. I have forgotten how much I enjoyed this strip. Such creative ways to build a snowman, eh? No snow here either, unless you go up the summits of one of the taller mountains.

Hey Clarino - you've GOT to tell us that one! Could your dad laugh about his fall, too?

A RIOT!!!

I loved that strip (and it wouldnt' suprise me if my six year old would do the same if we had any snow out there right now). there were a few I hadn't seen before, but they're all just priceless....

Sorry Frank, it's just an expression. My Dad never actually fell off the roof, and if he did I wouldn't laugh. Well, not much anyway!

Re: A special tribute to Calvin, Hobbes and the Underappreciated Art of the Snowman

Frank,

Thanks for posting that link! My six-year-old loves Calvin and Hobbes. Ever since he found all of my old books at my Mom’s house several years ago, he’s been hooked. The funniest part is how he reads. I put a lot of inflection into these comics when I read them to my boys, and he models my inflections VERY well. I get a kick out of it every time I find him reading (he still reads every word out loud!).

He also has one of the best laughs that I have ever heard and shares my sense of humor.

My Mom got the Calvin and Hobbs complete Anthology for my birthday last year (3 volumes and 1500 pages of pure delight). Several nights a week before bedtime I can be found reading to my boys on the couch, laughing our heads off.

Here’s another Calvin and Hobbes link that’s worth posting: Poemae Wattersonis. It’s many of the best strips that contain the poetry of Bill Watterson.

One of my personal favorite lines is in A Nauseous Nocturne. I laugh out loud every time when I get to “Buenas noches”. And how about that artwork! Wow!

I thought my son was going to explode when we read the one about the UFO and the aliens:

Even then I tried to fight,
And though they number many,
I poked them in their compound eyes,
And pulled on their “an-tenny”

Whew! We had to rest after that frame!

Enjoy everybody!
