| Piano User | suggestions for a weightlifting routine hey there, i'd like to get into making myself less weak, scrawny, and generally thinner. It's rather annoying to be the point of jibes 20+ times a day, mostly about being manly and such. What are some good things for a scrawny little weak white boy such as myself? (oh and did i mention we have some free weights at home?) |

Funny you should say that... for Lent I gave up sloth and have started working out again with the hope that i can start kickboxing again this summer. That's the plan, anyways, and we all know what happens with the best laid plans... At any rate, my karate teacher put me on a plan that works this way: 6 days a week with a day off each day you do 20 minutes of cardiovascular stuff (staionary bike, stairstepper, bike... whatever) and you warm up on the machine for about 3 mins. then up the level for one minute. Up the level again for another minute, then again, and then again and go back to the original easier level. Keep that up until you have about 2 minutes left and cool down. Stretch. Pick lower or upper body to weight train and each time you work a muscle group, start with a relatively easy weight for 12 reps. Add a bit more and do 10 reps. More weight, 8 reps, more weight and do 6 reps. You stretch for 1 minute in between reps, by the way. Quickly go to a different machine that works the same muscle group and do 12 reps at that last, heavy weight. Stretch Go work a different muscle group and do it the same way. It's a hell of a workout but you'll build very well and feel a difference in a week. So, that's what I do. It's made a huge diffrence in my legs which haven't worked well in a long while. I don't ache all the time any more. I think the method is called "Body For Life". They may have a website. Good to see you, by the way, Lazor. How's school? ML

Get the book 'The Body Sculpting Bible for Men' by Villepigue and Rivera - nothing gimmicky, just tons of good solid information. Rivera operates the website www.bodybuilding.com as well.

Run...don't walk to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of Bill Phillip's "Body for Life". It is the simplest, most effective total package plan out there. It covers weight training, cardiovascular exercise and an outstanding nutrition plan. Something I love about BFL is that it is explained so clearly that any questions you may have are answered in the book....It's very easy to understand and it's a realistic, do-able plan. Steer clear of muscle mags like "Muscle & Fitness" and the like. Pro body builders featured in these mags really heavily on dangerous chemicals and drugs to obtain their outlandish physiques. They're just a bunch of steroid monkeys! Good luck! Kevin

Body for Life All that Manny described is outlined quite nicely on the website. Check it out. I am sure it would be nice to have the book, but there is a lot of information already on the site. I use a circuit workout (CURVES Gym) and supplement with Yoga.
