![]() | Surgery update (along with a note of thanks) Here is a short update on my surgery and recoup, but first I need to say thanks to all of the people from this site that sent me personal messages, thoughts and prayers. There is no sense in my sitting here writing this, because after what I have been through during the past year and a half I should probably have passed away. I thank God and all of the wonderful people who sent me prayers for my recovery. Last Monday they took out my right kidney, gallbladder and appendix. The bad news is that there was cancer in my right kidney. The good news is that the cancer was encapsulated in the kidney, and the adrenal gland, lymph nodes and fatty tissues that there removed were all clean. Tomorrow I see an oncologist, but it looks like I’m going to be okay. The pain that goes with this surgery on a scale of 1-10 is an easy 12. It was twice the pain of my quadruple bypass last February. My wife and daughter have been absolute angels in helping me and my recoup is going very well. It will be quite a bit of time before I’m back to my old-self, but I’m getting better much faster than I dreamed. Again, thanks to all of you who have sent prayers and good wishes. All of the medical problems I’ve encountered in the since February of 2004 have made me realize just how special life is, and that your family and friends are indeed gifts that should be cherished. I live every day to the fullest, and I love my family and friends more and more everyday! I get to play my horns again in 11-weeks! I'm hoping the doctors will allow me to pull out them out early, but I'm going to follow their instructions. My two surgeons have been great to work with and one of them is not married. I told her I would consider it an honor to play at her wedding no matter when it is -- next year, or 10-years from now. Thanks to them I'll be around to play many more gigs!

| Forte User | My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know that you are going to recover well because of your positive attitude and the prayers of so many of your friends, as well as the prays of some folks that you don't even know. GET BETTER SOON!

| Fortissimo User | Get well soon, Bandman. I'm sure you'll be making good on your offer to your doctor! Good to hear you're back "on the bus". You'll be back in front of your "kids" before you know it. Remember.... you still have to have the pleasure of playing an Eclipse! :) |

![]() | The oncologist (sp??) pronounced me cancer free yesterday! I don't even have to go see him for a follow-up for 6-months! No matter how bad things get in my life from here on out I'll always think back to this year and a half and know things could get worse. God never sends you a cross to bear that you can't handle. I just hope that the old saying that what doesn't kill you makes you a stronger person. I hope that there is a special way that I'm supposed to use this experience to help others. I don't see it yet, but I'm sure the calling will come sooner or later.

| Pianissimo User | Congrats on the free of cancer. I remember when I was pronounced in remission. Unfortunately not cured, but remission is the second best thing. Enjoy life to its fullest... don't let those little things get ya down! Congrats again!
