Things I learned at work yesterday

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I learned....

1. If a cop is trying to pull you over, and you don't think you have done anything wrong you are not obligated to stop.

2. If you smoke weed in your car, and someone who doesn't smoke weed is in your car, it still smells like weed. (and your car is going to be searched)

Hopefully today is just as educational as yesterday.

So... are you saying that someone was smoking pot in the car and didn't think they were doing anything wrong?

Nope, two seperate instances.

I observe a moving violation by a 1997 Cadillac. I follow him for a minute + w/the whooper and lights on, when he finally stopped that was the excuse I got.

Second instance was a gal I pull over, for some reason her car smells like pot, she can't figure out why though.

Oh wow! Maybe someone abducted her car? Sounds like some of the excuses trumpet teachers hear -- be glad teachers aren't armed!

Another brainiac today....if you are going to tell the cop your name is spelled, J-E-S-U-S at least know how to pronounce it properly.

Ok, maybe he's just an idiot, but I can't help wondering: Is it at all possible he meant something like "I didn't think I was doing anything wrong, so for a short while I thought you were after someone else. But then it became painfully obvious that you wanted me, so I pulled over." ??

That is a fair question, the only thing I can say is when I want you pulled over there will be no doubt in your mind Especially after a period of time like a minute. If nothing else, even if you think I am not pulling you over you must yield to the emergency vehicle. So when you move over a lane, and I move over with you, and you move to the shoulder, and I move over with you the "hint" should be a big one by then.

We also take in to consideration, traffic levels, is the driver giving us any indication that they will stop? Brake lights, hand gestures (one fingered salutes don't count ) etc... So it is a totality of the circumstances.
