![]() | Hey Mike - was I right? I met Dave and Pat at the Jamey Aebersold camp a few years ago in London and play in the Dubai Big Band with Trevor but have never met you! (but I do remember Trevor saying he met up with you this summer....!) |

![]() | As a newbie to the game, I still find the diagonal rules most perplexing. It also seems that every time I attempt a sub-diagonal move of any kind I find myself surprised and step right into a Brigg's Crossing trap and I end up becalmed...in effect losing two or even three turns...whilst the game goes streaming right past me. I guess the more you play the farther you can see ahead and anticipate other players and their moves. It reminds me of learning to sight-read music in a way! |

| Fortissimo User | Pat, I recommend you find, purchase, and read the 6 tome series written by the late Sir James P. Nightly (a relative of Wee P. Nightly...one of the Scottish side of the family) who made somewhat of a study of the Lincolnshire variations as applied to the diagonal rules. They contain some very useful reading and many hints and clues that many of the British players of Morningside Crescent aren't even aware of. In particular I found Para: 5, Clause 3.6.1 (viix), page 478 in Vol. 4 to be helpful when I was just beginning to play the game. It is my understanding that there is a small bookseller just off Leicester Square who may know of one complete collection that might be coming on the market soon. |
