I am hoping I'll be there. After doing some research on plane tickets and everything....I don't know. I'm working on it though!

Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to fly or take a bus/train?

I've blocked out time at work to go - but I have yet to book a room or pay the ITG Conference fee. I have a couple of other irons in the fire that might serve to keep me from going and I have to wait and see on at least one of those things before I spend the cash to make reservations or purchase my entry to a convention I may not be able to attend.

I will be there

Despite the travel involved (why is that the International Trumpet Guild feel the need to have so many conferences in the US??), I feel it is worth it - a good chance to catch up with what is happening in the trumpet world (and meet up with some good friends made at previous conferences).

I think that it has something to do with the fact that the largest number of ITG members live here in the United States. If you look through the ITG members directory that came out in the last month, membership is overwhelmingly US based. Due to that, why shouldn't the ITG hold most of their conferences here in the US?

I would tend to think that eventually, the goal would be to spread ITG membership fairly evenly worldwide, and as that happens, more and more conferences are probably going to be held in countries other than the US. The UK would be a great place to have a conference in my opinion. Mike, can I crash at your place when they hold one over in your neck of the woods?

I can see that, but whenever the conference is held elsewhere, membership in that area seems to go upwards (it happened when it was in Manchester a few years ago, it happened last year with Thailand), it also introduces more people to the joys of attending a conference - my first one was when it was in Manchester (UK) a few years ago - I enjoyed it so much I have been to all of them since.

I do hope so - one of the great joys of these conferences, for me, has been travelling to other countries and experiencing what they have to offer (even if two out of three conferences have been in the US since I started travelling to them).

You missed the chance - the UK hosted in 2002, I doubt it will happen again shortly (and neither should it - spread the joy - let all countries take it in turn). Should it happen though, I can't offer a place to stay at the moment, but I will happily introduce you to the local beers - how's that for an offer?

Talking of which - any decent beers near this year's conference?

Mike, that's a great offer! As for beers....well, I think that the good beers are all going to come from overseas or Mexico, with the exception of maybe Samual Adams and a micro-brew or two, but that's just my opinion because I think that the American domestic beers are swill.

After you and I check out the beers at this year's conference, I'll have to make sure to get a passport so that you and I can check out the beers at conferences in the future. Oh, and the horns and players too!
