| Want Lower Gas Prices ? Removed ..... got flamed on the other trumpet forum for posting, even though it was in a location where nearly anything goes. Never meant for it to be some type of spam thing. But you guys didn't do that ... Thanks Last edited by dannac : 03-12-2008 at 02:43 AM. Reason: Maybe should not have posted it. |

| Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? I remember seeing this before sometime last year, apparently it didn't work. I don't nor have I ever bought gas from those companies but I'm one person. There is so much dissent in the ranks in this country I'd be amazed if 100 people banded together in support of anything let alone the numbers this scheme talks about. |

![]() | Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? A big part of the reason why gas is so expensive is all the taxes our government tacks on. Yeah, oil companies make money, but not as much as you might think. After the cost of purchasing, refining, and transporting the oil, and paying taxes, $2 a gallon is going to be mostly impossible. Here's a novel idea--instead of complaining about how much gas costs, use public transportation. Ride a bike. In general, stop acting like the lazy bums that the rest of the world thinks we are and conserve a little bit. Another thought-- Say you drive about 12K a year and you get about 25 miles a gallon (that's about what I get for my 98 Chevy Lumina). That's 480 gallons a year, give or take. So if gas is $2.50 a gallon, you're spending $1200 a year on gas. If gas is $3.50 a gallon, you're spending $1680, a difference of $480. Say you make $30K a year. That means you'll be devoting 1.6% more of your income to fuel. Gas prices are an easy target, but there are much more pressing issues in the world... -Jimi PS. And for the record, I lean towards the left, I just get sick of hearing people complaining... Last edited by Jimi Michiel : 03-11-2008 at 04:48 PM. |

| Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? It also has to do with futures traders. The price of gas is affected my many, many things. Gas here in the States is still not outrageously expensive, go to Europe or Japan and see what they are paying. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? If things get any worse I may have to rethink using the old RV as my daily driver. 4-6mpg sucks but I love to be able to party between services and lessons. I've had to raise the 1/2 hour rate to $90, which I hate to do but I can't afford to get on the road for anything less. Of course I lost most of my students when I had to jack the rate but I'm saving a hell of a lot on gas now. It really worked out for the best because I don't really like kids. Below you will find a picture of me stopping for a snack on the way to teach a lesson to a really talented 7th grader. ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? I hate to see that. It was obviously a gorgeous rig. After some thought I think you might be right, time to downsize. It might take a little while to adjust to the lifestyle change but we owe it to the kids I guess. The wife has been on me to pick up a smaller vehicle and it looks like the old lady may just win this battle. To tell you the truth I've had my eye on the bad boy below for the past couple weeks. If I end up passing on it I would be happy to send you the info. It's just so much more practical. ![]() |

| Forte User | Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? That actually really could work if everyone joined in. If we really did get 30 million people to do it, it would work. Jimi your saying gas went up because the process of making it went up. The process of making gas takes oil. Oil Prices go up, and gas goes up, which makes transportation prices go up. Its a never ending cycle. However, if you stop buying gas from the Power house of company's, they will lower there prices to attract more companys. Then people will go to that company instead, then once everyone else starts losing people, they go to the other places, and gas will drop back down. Maybe not to 2 dollars a gallon, but hey, why not? more people are using hybrids and riding bikes more. Cars are alot cleaner than they used to be, emmisions are not NEARLY as high as they used to be. Gas Shouldn't be 5 dollars a gallon. Its just ridiculous. Theres plenty gas to last us at least another 100 years, and by then we'll have hydrogen powered everything at the pace were going. |

| Re: Want Lower Gas Prices ? The gas issue is obviously very emotive....... here in the UK we are paying $2.10 US per litre.... the $10.00 gallon is on the way. Over 60% is tax! The tax is now justified by...... the PC green brigade. Like the US we have more cars per family than are needed....In most cities around the world we sit in huge traffic jams wasteing gallons of a limited resource just to go to the corner store to get more junk food. This in turn is very effective in the production of vast quantities of unsocialable methane gas .....which the scientists say is the bigger problem when it comes to global warming..... On a more serious note I wonder how many lives have been lost trying to control the oil resources of this world? In the short term maybe dannac is right.....start a price war....at the end of the day there is a much bigger picture..........I have been around awhile and can remember a slower pace with time to smell the flowers....well at least play catch or shinny in the road......perhaps I am just a sentimental old fool.....
