Re: What can you tell me about Alpacas Get a couple and let us know what you think. They look cuddly. I bet they taste great and make comfy throw pillows!

Re: What can you tell me about Alpacas Yep, they raise those critters round here. Better disposition than llamas and they don't try to mate with the sheep. Strange looking beasties if you're not used to seeing them. Expensive fur? How about $300 for a pair of knit gloves or $1100 for a nice sweater? Ouch! Cheers, Brian Brian

![]() | Re: What can you tell me about Alpacas MJ. If you are really interested I can contact a couple from my high school class that raise Alpacas. I'll find out if they are interested in talking to you. They are very serious Alpaca herdspersons. |

Re: What can you tell me about Alpacas We see commercials for those cuties all the time. There was something on the Animal Planet about them and all their cousins. It seems some of them have very fine "fur" and can bring in $500+ per pound. But I was surprised that the most common ones were only $5 per pound (or less). I'm suspect (and I could be way off base on this) that the commercialization of these animals is more about breeding profit then the fur profit. btw, I'm sure they don't call it "fur"... I think it's some fancier term...LOL I've always wondered if they spit like camels... anyone know? I love that look they have with the funky head hair. A bit "Beatle-ish"...

Re: What can you tell me about Alpacas Hi, I don't get the sense that the people who raise these animals make fabulous returns on their investment. Swiss Line is a local breeder of alpacas and they often have them at the local shopping mall to advertise them. The owners demonstrate how the animals are sheared and how docile they are during the procedure. Its pretty interesting as the alpacas are given summer haircuts and look like very strange long necked poodles. Stylin' ... from an alpaca viewpoint I guess! Cheers, Brian
