![]() | What other Hobbies do you have? Ok, So I'm wondering. As with any dynamic in society we all come from a lot of varying backgrounds. I'd kinda like to follow up on Manny's "Who are you thread" and see just what other then the Trumpet/Coronet we may have in common. I've done this on other websites for other hobbies I'm involved in and it usually proves interesting. Ok, I'll go first. I am also a Amateur (Ham) Radio Operator which is a great hobby most often referenced in the media during times of disaster. We (hams) provide emergency back up communications in some cases when all else has failed. During The great power outage of the August 2003 we provided comms for local agency's that had lost theirs. Police, Fire, etc... we did this on 9/11 as well. Most recently in support of health and welfare comms trying to get messages into and out of hurricane ravaged areas of the Gulf. So there's a glimpse of my other major hobby, what's yours?

| Forte User | My hobbies: I am a drummer. I have long held an interest in drumming and fiddled with it for years here and there, but two years ago I jumped on an opportunity to play drums for a contemporary praise and worship band, and part of that included buying my own drum kit: drums, cymbals, pedals throne, cases, etc. Since then I have made steady progress and now find myself able to do things that I never thought I would be able to do. I always thought that playing rock and roll drums would be easy but it has proven to hold a lot more tricks than I anticipated. Other hobbies include making or improving things on my own. For instance, I wanted a new snare drum for my kit. Rather than shell out the $400+ it would have cost to buy a quality maple snare drum, I decided instead to make my own from a quality shell and parts that I picked up from a drum parts supplier. I also like to read: fantasy, sci-fi, murder/mystery, horror - it doesn't matter as long as it can hold my interest. I'm currently in the middle of reading the novels that were written as an accompanyment to the Halo series of video games that tell the story behind the game. Oddly enough, they are better than you might think.

| Mezzo Piano User | Italian motorcycle sport bikes; my current ride is a Ducati SS900ie. I love animals too. I live with 2 Labrador Retrievers and an African Grey parrot (quite a talker). I play lead guitar in a classic rock band out on Long Island. I've played guitar for around 30 years now. gregc

| Fortissimo User | I like to strap a pair of 6' boards to my feet and see if I can survive while throwing myself down snowy mountainsides. Lately I've realized that this could be hazardous to my retirement plans and have been slowly tapering off while picking up a more sedate sport... ocean kayaking. I'd like to combine that with my other hobby of woodwork and try my hand at building a pair of kayaks for myself and my wife. I know I'm going to build at least one of these when I retire and probably sooner. http://www.pygmyboats.com/Default.htm ![]() |

![]() | Beautiful kayak Toots. For me it's motorcycling (YZF750), road and mtn cycling. Although if you were to ask my wife... it might be eating and sleeping... But I have to admit that it seems I have less and less time for those things since I've started playing again. I also enjoy working on rehabing the desert adjacent to our house. I've been planting seeds for years and they are finally coming in and filling in an area that was long abused by 4x4'ers. I've never had much patience for gardening... but I've enjoyed seeing things come up from seeds. |

![]() ![]() | Hey Mikey! I guess that you and I have one major interest in common. I have been shooting in competition for 62 years, shooting groundhogs, squirrels, deer, and various forms of vermin. I reload ammo, rebuild target rimfire rifles,( shortening barrels and rechambering, restocking, recrowning ),etc.. I have shot Air Rifle Field Target in world class competition for over 20 years. One of the major reasons for our recent trip to the U.K. was to attend the latest World Championship in that sport at Weston Park in the West Midlands. I also have a longstanding love of woodworking, making furniture, etc.. I gave up motorcycling when I had to have my knees replaced. Kinda hard to hold a full dress road bike up at a stoplight with artificial knees. OLDLOU>> |

![]() | Wow, Good stuff everyone. Bear, very impressive! I used to ride, had a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500A. Motorist in the Metro Detroit area are hard to get along with. I had to dump my bike at 70MPH on the Southfield Expressway and darned near got killed. The injuries that I sustained in this accident and a motor vehicle accident that happend about 2 months later keep me from riding any more so I leave the riding alone. I do miss it though, it was a great fraternity to belong to. I met a lot of really good people. Keep em coming, it's great to see just how diverse we all are!
