What other music do you listen to?

I know that a lot of us have lots of jazz CDs, classical CDs, and a lot of trumpet music in our collections. I also know that many of us listen to a lot of other music too, not just trumpet related. What do you listen to?

I'm quite partial to country music. I like the old stuff and I like a lot of the new stuff. Why? The songs have a lot of feeling and story behind them, and some are just FUN to listen to. They're not like a lot of the pop music out there. They have emotion, and I love the twangy guitar sounds. lol.

I also love Classic rock, alternative rock, some punk rock, some heavy rock, and some soft rock.

I love acousitic guitar music...anything from classical acoustic to stuff like Raul Midon or John Mayer. I wish I could play guitar...oh well, someday, right?

I also like a lot of Celtic/irish/scottish music. I love the lilt to it and the voices and mix of instruments.

So...what do ya'll listen to?

Hendrix
SKY
Mike Oldfield
Jean-Michel Jarre
Swingle Singers

Quite how to categorise some of these is a mystery to me - guys like Mike Oldfield take classical form but approach it very differently (Tubular Bells being the prime example).

Jean-Michel Jarre is someone that I got hooked on when I happened to see one of his shows on tv, great chill out music and bizarre shows

Progressive rock...bands like Yes, ELP, Rush. Celtic/Scottish folk music. I like bluegrass...but have no recordings of it. Classic rock bands like Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, the Doors, King Crimson. I used to really have a thing for electronic music, but lately...I find it quite sterile and "muzaky". I also enjoy Eastern musics like classical music from India. iSALSA! Soo much...

I like just about anything!

It's not uncommon to find a Loius Armstrong tune playing before an Ozzy Osbourne tune in my MP3 player!

I used to play rythem guitar and lead vocals in a county band in the mid 90's so I like most of that genre too.

I like James Taylor, Gordan Lightfoot, Don McClean etc...

Old and new so many things.

Styx, Van Halen, REO Speedwagon, Journey etc...

John Couger Mellencamp (I think he's just John Couger now)
Most of the music of the 1980's !

The Beatles; music of the 1950's

JIMMY BUFFETT As a matter of fact I'd love to have this guys job:
http://www.margaritaville.com/CRB_lovell.php

Of course I have no where near the skills but it would be nice!

Raegae, calypso, and steel drum music. Ahhhh how I love the Caribbean!

Lots of stuff; I could go on and on.

And of course the trumpet standards:

Louis Armstrong
Maynard Fergusson
Herb Alpert
Chuck Mangione
Rafael Mendez
and on and on and on........

Before I got really into trumpet I was really into guitar, which made get really into southern rock (among just about any other type of rock), but I became a really big SRV, Clapton, Skynyrd, CCR, and BB King fan, those guys are just great! I'm also a sucker for 80's music

I like Ska music, if any of you don't know what that is, it's basicaly alternative rock with a horn line (usualy trumpet, trombone, and tennor sax), and lots of happy little guitar chords on the off-beats (thats the best way I can explain it). Reel Big Fish, Catch 22, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Save Ferris, and Streetlight Manifesto are some of my favorites.

But I'll listen to just about anything depending on the mood I'm in. I have just about every genre on my iPod except for rap, hip-hop, and screamo heavy metal bands.

bandman will become famous soon enough
Here is what is currently in my MP3, but I’ll listen to just about anything from Cajun to Opera. Generally speaking, I like to listen to anything that is both fun, and performed by a good musician.

Jimmy Buffett
Cubanismo
Oscar D’Leon
Rod Stewart (the Classic collection)
Afro-Cuban All-stars
Chicago
Wayne Bergeron
Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band
Carrie Underwood
