What a way to start the week...

Ok...I'm in need of some sympathy...lol.
[rant]
So, I wake up this morning, only to find that my alarm had been unplugged and I had slept through my Statistics lecture/quiz. That was GREAT. Then, I went to my psych lecture and totally bombed that quiz. Lunch came around, I ran into my boyfriend (who had just gotten back from student health) and found out that he has strep throat - which shed light on the fact that I'd been feeling pretty sick all day and that my throat was kind of sore. We ate lunch, and I was off to psych discussion. That was ok, except for the fact I got lost again (it's only the second time we've met) and walked in late and had to sit in a corner where I couldn't see anything because of the girl sleeping in front of me. Class got over and I went to my weekly Monday hangout - a nice, quiet coffee shop. I did some relaxing and thinking, wrote out some lists of things I need to do, and just had a pretty ok hour. Went to mythology lecture, had my hand cramp up from taking notes all day, and was pretty jittery from the Mocha I had earlier. Went to dinner, which I had to inhale because I had University band practice at 6:30. I get there right as everyone was warming up, sit down, inform the director that my bf won't be there because he's sick, and find out that I didn't get the solo that I have been dying to play since I played "Third Suite" last year in Wind Symphony. Band practice goes ok, and I go to practice for my lesson and jazz band. While taking a break, I run into some friends. The baritone player askes to see my trumpet (My Eclipse) and I let him. He asks me a few questions and informs me that the trumpet looks pretty "cheesy". That hurt...a lot. I love that trumpet...it's my baby. I went back to practice, got frustrated and my chops about died (I had been playing since 6:30 - it was 9:15 when I stopped), and came home to find that I have a slight temperature.

I want to cry...I hate Mondays. [/rant]

Re: What a way to start the week...

Lara.........I'll give you a cyber-hug, as I don't want to get strep.

I think you should get to the student health center asap. Get a throat culture and if it is positive, get on antibiotocs right away. You don't want to end up with Mono or something.

And don't worry about the Eclipse insult. You know you have a great horn. He is just jealous.

Take care, and get well.....

Baritone players are the violists of the band world--never take them seriously! Feel lots of good vibes from the cool trumpet folks at TM, check out student health, drink some chicken broth, crawl into bed with a good book and sleep. Suite dreams!

Re: What a way to start the week...

What Mikey said is right. Anybody who calls the Eclipse 'cheesy' is an idiot.

And don't worry, when you get to be a pro, you'll have days like that too!
But hopefully there will be really good days as well.....

That is an insult to violists - Baritone players aren't THAT good.

When you mentioned the Eclipse I had a nasty feeling in my throat that he had dropped it - thank goodness he only showed his ignorance.

At least you slept through your lecture away from the venue - more polite than turning up and sleeping through it in front of the lecturer (especially if you snore - been there, done that).

Sounds like a rough day Lara - take care and remember that it will get better (as will the bf, which will make you happy )

Re: What a way to start the week...

Here's a list for you Lara. Be grateful that...

1. It's Tuesday now (even in your time zone)!!!

2. The big clumsy baritone player (they are all quite "dorky") didn't drop your baby. I also was relieved that the next line didn't say that he had dropped it. It is a beautiful horn & big, clumsy baritone players shouldn't be allowed to touch it.

3. That the prof. didn't see YOU sleeping and throw chalk at you (yep, true story). (yes, I realize it wasn't you sleeping in your class).

4. Antibiotics can nip that strep. right in the bud, but ONLY IF U GO TO STUDENT HEALTH BEFORE IT TAKES HOLD!!!

(been away 4 a while & thought I'd check in)

Re: What a way to start the week...

You're even a little concerned by what a BARITONE PLAYER said??????

A guy that plays a fog horn with an interesting wrap?????

Someone that actually CHOSE to play a baritone?????

A fella whose idea of perfect pitch means throwing the baritone in a dumpster without hitting sides?????

A person who working on his tone emulates a moose in heat????

A guy who is only in band because the equipment manager position of the girls field hockey team was taken????

Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

Q. What's the difference between a baritone player and a dead squirrel in the road?

A. The dead squirrel might have been on the way to a gig.

Aww Lara,
Here is a big BEAR hug for you: ((((((HUG))))))

College is full of days where mishaps are certain. I am certain that people attending college are far more wrapped up in their own miserable lives that sometimes they do not realize what they say may be hurtful. Don't let the baritone player bother you. Get some meds in you for your throat and quit kissing your boyfriend when he's sick!! HAHA. It's a hard road but it's also a fun one that you will surely enjoy. Speaking of, I need to get going to class. Take care of yourself. Keep practicing. I remember in my undergrad where I would wake up at 6 a.m. and not get home until after midnight. But I loved every moment of it. Your going to do very well.

Keep on blowin',
Tim (Bear)
