I don't know if you know this or not, but about 5 minutes ago I was in the Chat room with another user and these white messages kept coming up without someone's username. I asked him about it and he said everyone calls him Gremlin. According to rumors, he (well, we don't know if it's a he, we don't even know if it's always the same guy, but I'll call it a he since hackers are usually guys) has never revealed any info about himself. This was my first encounter with him, but the guy I was chatting with has said that he has had lots of encounters with this gremlin and he has been around for years.

The fact that he can hear private conversations (maybe not all are private, but some could be ,considering that some may not know there is a 3rd person) without being noticed (well, he could if he'd just keep his mouth shut, or should I say fingures since it's a chat room) is not good. I hear that he leaves after just a couple of minutes, which he did, but does he really leave, or just quit talking?

He could be a spy, this could be really bad if say 2 guys are talking and for some reason one gives the other his credit card number thinking that only the other will hear it. This could also be bad if there is just one guy in the chat room and he is talking to himself and accidently gives out personal and confidential info about himself and Gremlin finds this out (I talk to myself when I'm the only person in a chatroom, but never give out any personal information).

Does this guy give out viruses? Does he post threads? Can he hack into private chatrooms here (although I never noticing anyone using private chatrooms here)? Can he read private messages and find out peoples passwords, and if so does he? Does he do this to other chat rooms off of other sites as well? I've heard that he's just an innocent prankster that's amused at mildy annoying others, but can you be so sure? Is he a guy who has an account here? Can he be banned? Please fill me in these questions or anything else that you know about this guy or any experiences you've had with him, this was my first time I saw him, I'd like to know all that you know about him. Has he ever given out any information about himself? We should really try to track him down and kick him, or make our chat room security a little better so that he can't hack in.

I think he WAS banned......maybe not from here, but I would bet he was banned from some other virtual trumpet site...

The internet is the internet and anything you type becomes public (unless you have a secure link - which is NOT the case in a chat room). If you want to keep things secret then just do it!

I have NEVER run into the Gremlin, but don't chat much either.
