| Whoa Nelly! Some random thoughts.... It's nice to be at work where we have such basic yet wonderful things as: Electricity, air, the internet etc... Last night some extremely severe storms ripped through the south east. Three homes on my street were reduced to slabs and just north of me a whole subdivision was erased. Ledger-Enquirer | 03/02/2007 | Twister rips Columbus Reports of 3 Deaths, Widespread Damage From Thursday Storms It was a Tornado apparently; I never saw it but I'll never forget the "Freight train" like sound that I heard as the whail of the Severe Weather Warning sirens came over the city. Sounding much like the old air raid sirens of WW2. My wife and I gathered our animals and headed to the most interior room in our home a bathroom and bunkerd down. The wind was so strong that it snapped trees like twigs, bent them right over with no more effort then what I'd use to break a very small tree branch. Semi-trucks were tossed around like toys on the local freeway I-185 and power lines were snapped like cooked speghetti noodles. Again; My wife, the dog, the Cat, and I are fine. Our home sustained no damage; remarkably. Mother nature sure is something! I wonder when we'll have power at home again? You just don't fully appreciate electricity and all it powers until you flip the switch and nothing happens. Last edited by Eclipsehornplayer : 03-02-2007 at 07:18 AM. |

| Re: Whoa Nelly! John, Glad you are okay. Hope no one was seriously injured. I remember having no electricity here in Phoenix in August one year. It was 112 outside and we sat inside watching the indoor temps slowly rise from 72, 73, 74... and I thought what did people do in Phx BEFORE A/C?... Makes us realize how dependent we've become on so many "luxuries of life". Some would say electricity is not a luxury but a necessity... and it's hard to argue with that... but somehow society survived without it for a long time... and many still do in 3rd world countries. We are all getting so "soft"... Again, glad you and your family are okay. Is Alex close enough to have been hit? |

| More like "Auntie 'Em, Auntie 'Em!" Glad you are alright John. How's that for a parting gift? Yipe! Hey Rog, thanks for asking and things are fine here. We had a lot of rain, but since we live in the hilly area, those tornados tend to stay clear of here. Down where John lives is very flat and borders Alabama, which is also very flat. Anything south of Atlanta is up for grabs in these storms. Most places Atlanta and northward are usually fine because the mountain range begins here. My heart always breaks at these stories though. It happens every year somewhere in Alabama and Georgia. |

I'm from Michigan so I've seen this type of weather before; however down here it appears to have a bit more fury behind it! It looks like no one was killed here in Columbus, GA so far this is of course great news. Rogerio; Alex is about 1 1/2 hours north east of me; as she stated in the hills/mountains so this type of weather usually does not affect her too much. What a ride! | |

| Re: Whoa Nelly! John; Glad you and your family are OK. I was wondering how you folks were faring in the storms last night. Our weather was similar to what Alex described (I live probably an hour northeast of John, but south of Alex). More rain than storms, and only a little lightning. Our concert did get cancelled though. The professor just thought with all the watches and warning, it would be prudent to have the concert another time. |
