![]() | Young People's Concerts this week Yup... finally, I get to wag my butt on the MinnOrch podium for a couple of days. I'll be conducting a show called "Viva Latino!" with a focus on the works of Spanish, Carribean, South American, and Mexican music. Also featured are the last couple of movements from Cappriccio Espagnole. I've got a pot of rice on the stove to get me in the mood for the rehearsal! Woohoo! Concerts are in the morning at 10 and 11:35 on Wednesday and Thursday. If you're not busy, come on down. It'll be fun, I promise. ML |

![]() | Manny, Don't forget the beans to go with your rice. Could add some more musicality to your show! Good Luck and have fun with the show! Kim

![]() | So... I had an absolute blast! I had what wound up to be 1 hour and 45 minutes to rehearse a world premiere, one movement of a concerto, and four bits of standard rep. It was a two hour rehearsal with a 15 minute break if you're scoring at home. The premiere took an hour to rehearse. It involved two sets of dancers from award winning tango dancers to 3rd graders dancing El Jarabe Tapatio. After the break we did the concerto four 4 guitars and orchestra of Rodrigo. The balance of the rehearsal was Falla/ Danza Andaluz, Villa-Lobos/ The Little Brazilian Train, Ginastera/Malambo from Estancia, and the 4th and 5th movement from Cappriccio Espagnole. I saved the stuff the orchestra knew well for the last part of rehearsal. I ended witha whopping minute and a half on the clock. That was my biggest fear, not finishing everything that needed to be done in time. But I also knew that the orchestra could play the things at the very end of the rehearsal without running through it. I had a total of 55 minutes for the entire show with a 35 minute break before the next performance. I finished the first show with another whopping minute and a half to go... lucky me! But that was because I warned the orchestra that if need be we would perform emergency surgery and cut the 4th movement of the Cappricio. That's just what we did. You would have loved seeing Doug and Bob wearing mariachi hats for that portion of the program. It was very funny. What was funnier was being told after the show that i had announced the pieces out of order without realizing it. "So, we're switching the Ginastera and the Villa Lobos, then?" DOH!!! Uh, yeah.. I meant to tell you.... No matter, it was fine. It was a grand experience and I got to use the boss's office. I resisited the temptation to put my feet up on his desk, however. I'll tell you, though... it's good to be the king... nice office, Osmo. Beats the hell out of our locker room. Well, it was nice while it lasted. ML |

![]() ![]() | Doug and Bob wearing mariachi hats. Sorry about the bad photography, I rushed it because I was worried about getting busted by the ushers. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/9373/dsc007876cs.jpg I tried posting the image here, but the formatting was weird...
