Your prayers are needed

Please pray for the family of Mr. Tom Roebel. He was my health teacher last year at Roger Bacon and passed away this morning at a very early age. He was driving to school this morning and was on the highway when he stopped responding. He was driving with his daughter who is a junior at Roger Bacon. She realized that he was not responding so she got him to pull over to the side of the road. This is when he had a heart attack and he ran into a parked semi on the side of the road. We were told about him having an accident at the beggining of mass this morning. He was over at the hospital along with his daughter. We were having a mass to celebrate Catholic Schools week. So we all prayed for him. At the very end it was announced that he passed away. So we returned to homeroom and had about 15 minutes to just let it out before first bell started. I cannot believe what an impact he has made on everyone. everyone in the whole school except half the freshman class had had him for at least a semester of health, if not also for weightlifting. Well I went to first bell and all we did there including our teacher Mr. Butz who was a very good friend of Mr. Roebel was sit there and just cry. I went next to second bell, english, and all we did was just tell some of the greatest stories about him.

Here is where I must tell you a little about him. He was our health and weightlifting teacher at Roger Bacon. He was the funniest guy ever. He could not make it through a class without telling at least five new jokes. He would sometimes stand right inside his room and jump out and say boo to the first to come in, freaking them out. He would walk down the lunch line tapping people on their shoulder and just keep walking as their heads all turn one was then look the other way to see Mr. Roebel walking away. He would always be so proud when he did that. One thing that most people remember of him is his famous duck call. He would built up this whole big thing about him having the world's smallest duck call. He would then produce a soda tab from a can and hold it up to his mouth and say in a soft timid voice "here duckie duckie duckie!" People would just crack up at this. People also remember his money pouch for change. He would randomly be sitting it class and say "hey do you want to see my scrotum!!" and people would be thinking "what the heck is he up to?" then he would pull out his money pouch. It was a genuine kangaroo scrotum. Half the people would laugh and the other half get grossed out.

You know those CPR dummies? One day when we were going to practice on the and he picks on up and starts dancing with it and says "they are such wonderful dancing partners!".

His headstand..... he is famous for this at Roger Bacon. He is this really large man and at the end of the year for each of his classes he'll do a headstand. It was amazing to see him do it. It seemed to defy the natural laws. But he did it and he was amazing. He also took one of those stretchy book covers and put it over his head then pulled his tie over his mouth and says "look im a superhero!".

Well during english we sat there telling all his jokes and funny stories then were called to the auditorium. We had a prayer service and were sent home early. I cannot believe that this happened. I guess God got bored with all the other comedians up in heaven and needed a new one.

It is also amazing how Roger Bacon, a highschool of 650 kids has really pulled together like one big family. The halls were completely silent this morning as people went shuffling to their first class. Teachers were not worried about kids showing up a little late or anything. Anyone who wanted to was allowed to walk down to the chapel. People were hugging and comforting eachother in the halls. It was just..... wow...... i cant of a word to describe it other than wow. This one man has affected thousands and thousands of people that have went through Roger Bacon. As one of my friends said "he must have gone to heaven. He affected so many people in such an amazing way. I can see Jesus up in heaven with his little pop tab saying 'Here Tommy Tommy Tommy! Here Tommy Tommy Tommy!'"

His daughter fortunately survived, but has a few broken bones. So I ask for your prayers for all those that knew this amazing guy. He has truly led an amazing life. Though he did not die how he wanted to (he wanted to be stepped on by an elephant while wearing a clown costume. he made up a new way each day. ) he will still be remembered.

In memory of him since I know this is what he would want done, I will end this with one of his jokes.

"A guy had just gotten done with tennis practice and has a tennis ball in each of his pockets. He goes over to his girlfriend's house and knocks on the door. She answers and looks at the bulges in his pockets. she asks 'what do you have?' and he says 'tennis balls'. She exclaims 'ow! I once had tennis elbow!'"
