![]() | Youth Baseball '07 Everybody, On this sad day I wanted to offer something pleasant. Today, at my boy's school, the '07 baseball season started. He missed a chance to try for varsity because he wasn't able to go on a "spring training" trip with the others in Florida. So, he's happy to play on JV until something opens up on Varsity if it does. At ay rate they played today and the Breck Mustangs won 5-1 behind the two-hit pitching of M. Laureano. The real story is that they played a seven inning game against Blake School, an old rival, and the kid pitched a helluva game: 18 strikeouts. I couldn't friggin' believe it. After a rocky first inning he got it together and just pitched his heart out. He mixed the fastball, change, and curve for the win. I called his grandparents afterward. So, I thought it would be fun to start a thread about youth baseball and encourage whomever wished to write in and let us know about baseball and softball games involving the young ones in our lives. If you want to get serious about it, though, the place to be is MJ's baseball site. Otherwise I thought this would be a nice place for news about our kids. ![]() | Re: Youth Baseball '07 Manny, You should be very proud. Your son pitched a great game, and you were there to watch it. <Grin> This day will never be forgoten by your son or yourself. My son is also a pitcher soon to be a teenager. He's has much more raw talent than I ever had. In state last year he had 13 SO in 9 innings, allowing 1 run. He is starting to reap the benefits of good practice habits. I myself have more fun watching him pitching than pitching myself. I couldn't be more proud. Although it is 1000 times more nerve racking. Thanks for sharing.

![]() | Re: Youth Baseball '07 Thanks for some good news today, Manny. I don't have any kids and it's been a long time since I was in little league, but I really enjoyed Jackie Robinson Day in MLB yesterday. I thought seeing so many players and teams wearing 42 was an excellent tribute to a great man. Four sport letterman at UCLA (baseball, basketball, football, track). His (Hall of Fame) major league career didn't start until he was 28 but he still collected over 1500 hits and a .311 lifetime average. He also served in the military before baseball. Anyway, something uplifting on a very sad day. Jason. Ps, Send that kid of your to the Rockies...we always need pitchers! That must have been a fun game for you to watch!

![]() | Re: Youth Baseball '07 Oh, good grief, Mike you may be right (not that I think he has a snowball's chance of winning) but I thought he grew up in Bloomington, MN. Then again, Blake's a private school so, yeah, you might well be right. ML |
