| Pianissimo User | 1 Piece and 2 Piece bells When I was in junior high looking to get a pro trumpet one of the selling points was that pro trumpets had a one piece bell whereas student trumpets used 2 piece bells because they are cheaper to produce. I've been noticing that a lot of vintage professional trumpets/cornets had 2 piece bells and some new models of professional or custom horns use 2 piece bells. I always assumed that one piece bells were inherently better and that an electrolytically created bell would be the ultimate, since it is one continuous piece of metal. Can anyone shed some light on this? BTW, notice that I didn't mention any brands in this post. I'm not interested in saying one brand is better than another becuase of bell construction. I just have a general interest in how trumpets are made. |
