| Fortissimo User | No mistake, Pat. There is a certain member (or members) of TH who specialize in winkling out the scam sales on Ebay and bidding them into ridiculous levels (multi MILLION$) so that nobody else will bid. The prices are intended to be so obviously false that the vendor pulls the sale rather than risk being exposed to EBAY. This particular horn had gotten up to the magnificent sum of about $2,200 when the seller started receiving emails from a "potential buyer" asking about it. When it became clear to him that "they" were onto him he pulled the sale and relisted. The last time I looked at it it was at $99. Now ask yourself... who puts a "Buy It Now" for a Monette at $2,200 let alone start bidding at $99? Only one type... someone who doesn't even OWN the instrument in questions. Clue #2.... he failed to list the serial number. An honest seller would list the serial number so that a potential buyer could check it out directly with the factory. Clue #3... the seller has "0"sales and "0" feedback. Clue #4, the seller has the buyers' ID "private".... so that nobody can contact them directly and warn them off. It's a game that's been played out dozens of times in recent months (years?) with high priced trumpets on Ebay. |

| Even if this ad was legit, I would never attempt to buy a Monette horn off E-Bay. Here's why: Monette trumpets, especially the higer-end models, are very fragile and delicate. The slightest bump or ding can throw off the horn. IF the repair is done by anyone other than Monette, you stand a good chance of messing up the horn. I personally know of several instances where an unsuspecting person bought a Monette off E-Bay or one of these trumpet sites, got the horn, and found so-mething wrong with it (These were accomplished players used to Monette equipment). The horns were "repaired" by someone other than Monette, and cost these people a lot of money to have Monette repair and adjust them properly. The only way I would buy a horn like this is if the seller would send the horn to Monette (I would pay the shipping). If Monette checks the horn and finds it to be up to his standards, only then would I send the person the money for the horn. Otherwise, no deal. |

| The slightest bump or ding can throw off the horn... ??? Oh, come on! Most of us don't like to put dents and dings in our horns, and it may be that Monette instruments, if made of softer brass, are easier to damage, but do you really think a "ding" on a Monette affects it any more than a "ding" on a Bach?
