I own one and like it. I only own vintage horns. My favorite trumpet is my York Master Model, ( the make and model that was issued to the U.S. Marine Corps Band after WWll ). I have several other top line horns and I would rate the Olds Special as a close second to my York. That is high praise for any vintage horn.

I read that the valves were spose to last a life time.

Of my trumpets, my favorites are my York Master Model, followed closely by my Olds Recording Model. In the cornet inventory I am somewhat perplexed because I have short cornets, American Long Cornets, and Extended Cornets. These are very different in tone, response, ergonomic comfort and many other factors. I suppose that I like my Boston 3 star best of my short cornets, in the American long cornets, it is a toss up between my Olds Recording Model and my Martin Committee MOdel. In the class of extended cornets, there is just no comparison to my Martin Imperial Handcrafted.

I hope that this answers your question about my favorites.
