![]() | Alternatives to silver or goldplate Has any had any experience with titanium nitride coating on a trumpet or know of any reason that it might be a bad idea to try? I am seriously considering experimenting with a mid-level horn (Getzen Eterna II) to see what results I get. Chas |

![]() | Re: Alternatives to silver or goldplate I would be concerned about any repair work that may have to be done in the future if you would accidently put a dent in it. just a thought. Dave

I had a mouthpiece plated once and it was too slippery but impervious to microscratches (that hold water). It looked cool, was tougher than nails, but unplayable for me. Plating the horn would be an interesting experiment. As Dave said, repairs would not be easy and I suspect that the hardness would make the trumpet "ring" much more. That would probably make the response very uneven. It would sure look cool though! It is always fun to play when someone else foots the bill! Go for it! Remember your chances of return are about ZERO though!

![]() | Re: Alternatives to silver or goldplate Eclipse was experimenting with plating horns with rodium. Perhaps someone (Castlebravo) could tell you the effect it had on the sound and playing characteristics before you invest. |

![]() | Re: Alternatives to silver or goldplate My horn (Stage1) is plated in palladium - looks great, very easy to keep clean, and seems (after 9 months or so) to be resistant to wear and tarnish. Its kind of like a dark silver colour, though any photos of palladium that i have seen never match up to how good it looks "live".
