Any copper bell cornet players out there?

Greetings all,
I've been looking at cornets and noticed that some makers have a copper bell model. I'm intrigued by the idea and was wondering if anyone out there plays one. If so, what manufacturer? What are your impressions of the sound? Do you use it for solo or with a group or both? Any recordings?

Regards,
Dave

I play on a Getzen Eterna cornet with a copper bell. It has a really nice warm sound with the comprimise mouthpiece and a really dark sound with the wick 2 cornet mouthpiece. I use it for teaching, solos and cornet parts in the community orchestra

the stage 1 cornet is amazing, give you the reachest sound you can imagine. You can make it sound like a flugel when you want but keep the cornet edge as well.

I own a 3850 Getzen. Really nice horn. Sounds great using a Wick 4 or 4b.

Both the Getzen and the Stage 1 look very nice. It looks like the Stage 1 has no bell bracing, or perhaps I just didn't see it... I think I would be afraid of a lack of bell bracing.

conncoprion will become famous soon enough
Re: Any copper bell cornet players out there?

Well if you don't want to put out a ton of money you can always look into a Conn "coprion" cornet. These Coprion bells were 100% pure copper....but more importantly they were Seamless! Unlike alot of the copper bells put out today. I have a Conn 17a Director (which is considered a student model way back when) but it's solid. Copper will give you a dark, mellow sound. I love mine...not too shabby for 120 off of eBay. The copper bells also for some reason seem to have a more focused sound...don't ask me why....anyways I Hope this helps!

one thing to be careful with though is copper is a softer metal then brass and dents very easily.

Re: Any copper bell cornet players out there?

actually copper is not as soft as you think. Mine is actually more resistent than any other instrument I own in the passed. I was very surprised too.
