![]() | Any recommendations on a good jazz trumpet I currently have a Schilke B4 trumpet built in 1971. This is a very bright trumpet. Any ideas on a great dark horn like the Martin Committee but new? I appreciate any recommendations. Thanks. Also, this is my first time posting to the forum and want to tell everyone hello. I've just started playing trumpet again after a 20 year layoff as a hobby and have really enjoyed it. |

| New Friend | Re: Any recommendations on a good jazz trumpet Hi there! I myself am a Jazz musician. looking for a good horn are you not? There is a horn out there made specifically to play jazz, i forgot what its called... but i think the best thing to do would be to get a normal, professional trumpet and buy yourself a Jazz mouthpeice... Look into Bach or Yamaha. They've got some great trumpets! If you want more info dont hesitate to PM me.

On a site with many working professional players, like Clarence, it is a little presumptuous for a high school player to identify themself as a "Jazz Musician" and give advice like; "There is a horn out there made specifically to play jazz, i forgot what its called... but i think the best thing to do would be to get a normal, professional trumpet and buy yourself a Jazz mouthpeice..." In all fairness to Clarence and with no offense meant to the original poster, I would also like to know what trumpet is made specifically to play jazz, what a normal professional trumpet is and also what mouthpiece would be considered a "jazz mouthpiece". We do have to be a little honest in what we see. It was really not the wisest thing for DCS to post in light of all the professional jazz players here. -cw-

Otherwise, the arrogance of posters saying "how dare you post among professionals such as us and presume to give advice to professionals such as us" embarrasses a young trumpet player and possibly causes her to leave the forum permanently. Plus, the High School girl did not know the identity of the person she was addressing (and I don't know his identity either), so how can her post be considered "presumptuous"? How was she supposed to know that she was addressing an alleged "professional" trumpet player? In a religious debate forum I once told a person that he was wrong about something. He shot back with "I am a rabbi and you presume to lecture me?" I had no idea that the person I was speaking to was a rabbi. (Not that it made any difference, because he was still wrong about the point we were discussing.) I welcome the High School trumpet player to this forum. I assure her that this trumpet forum belongs to her just as much as it belongs to you or to anybody else. I hope she stays, so that in our sharing, both her and we may learn from each other's trumpet playing experiences. - morris | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Any recommendations on a good jazz trumpet We once had a poster here that continually spewed forth much information that was wrong and made up. It went on for months before he was finally called out. At what point do we finally say something about misinformation? Or do we just let it pass? Do we tell the person who asked the question to go to his local store and ask for a "Jazz mouthpiece"? The person asking the question might feel a little foolish if he took that information and did that. What about his needs to have an intelligent answer. (and a "Jazz mouthpiece is not a good answer) A more correct answer from the high schooler might have been to say that she really likes jazz, as opposed to saying "I am a jazz musician." What kind of information is.... "Get a normal professional trumpet"? and "Buy yourself a Jazz mouthpiece." ? This place IS a great place to learn, but we also have to let other people know when they are being given not so good advice. Clarence was doing so in a friendly non hostile way. I did so in a little more direct way in answer to your post about Clarence. I guess we will just disagree. -cw-
