ANY THING YOU DO TO A BACH....

...makes it play better!!

Heavy caps, lighter caps, move a brace, take one off, put one back, valve align, amado water keys, stomvi water keys, third valve ring put underneath, new lead pipe, drop it, freeze it.....

I think Bach is the most tweeked horn, and it seems like whatever you do to a Bach makes it play better!!!

(tongue firmly planted in my cheek)

rounded main tuning slide...

change the bell...

change the lead pipe....

replacing everything beyond the mouthpice with a different brand (works best)..

Here is the ultimate tweak.
Blame your Bach for everything and put your Bach in a case and buy and sell 3 or 4 different brand horns over a 2 or 3 year period. Make sure the horns you buy are really very good instruments in their own right. Have friends who have good ears tell you you sound good, but sounded better on your Bach. Ignore their comments for 6 months or more before buying another horn.

Finally, after the 2 or 3 year, 4 or 5 thousand dollar journey, heed friends' advice and take the hidden away Bach out of case and play it, all the while knowing that Bachs are mass produced and should not play that well. Soon realize it is a whole lot better than you thought it was. Begin getting accolades on your sound/playing again.

I call this the "Hide and Seek" method.

Yeah, there are some some very, very good manufacturers other than Bach who really do make great horns, but why do so many of them -but again, not all of them - try to make a Bach "killer" or improve Bach's original designs?

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

This is so true, and we often blame everything but our own practice habits and maintaining some common sense if we have a bad day or two.

Re: ANY THING YOU DO TO A BACH....

Go to Spada and he will make it play better for you.

Never listen to Eclipse lovers for they are not into it (bach playing) whatever that means

Makes sure that you have enough to pay for the spada conversion....it is a bit like going to the dentist....what hurts the most it is not your teeth but your wallet but the final result is really worthed

Re: ANY THING YOU DO TO A BACH....

Have it taken apart and resoldered without stress.
Have a ring put on the first valve slide.
Put leaded tape (from golf stores) on the slides.
