![]() | Re: B&S Challenger JBX Hi Claude, German made trumpets. A friend of mine from New Zealand plays B&S trumpets. He has a couple. He also told me they are very popular, along with Yamaha trumpets in New Zealand. There aren't as many Bachs aroiund. On is a lightwieght B&S Challenger Elaboration. It is the model Mark Pender from the Conan O'Brian show plays. Great response, lightweight body and bell, probably more of a lead players horn. The second one is a heavy weight model, 72 bell. It plays very similar to a heavy weight bach. I think much of the design is very Bach influence. The Elaboration flugelhorn is also very nice. The Elabloration models have a real cool matte lacquer finish that gives and antique like look, a little shine without the sparkle. Those are the ones i have tried. I believe they have them at Sam Ash in NY. Josh?

![]() | Re: B&S Challenger JBX Claude, I bought a Challenger DBX last week, thus I cannot comment on the JBX. The DBX is a very good horn that allows me to play more secure with a bigger sound and projection than many other horns I've tried before - most of them were way more expensive! The intonation is excellent, I almost don't need to use the trigger. Craftsmanship is flawless. |

![]() | Re: B&S Challenger JBX Guys: Thank you all for your informative replies. I will be trying one of the JBXs out soon. Chuck Levin's in MD is bringing one. I have quite a few horns but incredibly my favorite player right now is a "lowly" Andreas Eastman Chinese bflat....in a word - SUPERB! |

![]() | Re: B&S Challenger JBX Bought it today at Chuck Levin's - Roger Kiper had 6-7 horns lined-up for me in a private room and I tested all, As best as I can recall - a Stomvi Master, A custom Getzen, the "high end" Eastman (520, I think), a Mike Vax model (?), and a few others I forget- THEN, I blew three notes on the B&S JBX....I wrote the check right then and there and didn't even ask for a discount! All the horns played well, and I still think my "lower end" Eastman is great and uniqe...but the JBX is simply in another league; and at $2,100.00 I gues it should be...I LOVE IT! Thanks Roger..... What really got me is the tone (neither dark nor bright...) and mostly, the ease of playing...any small effort translated into clear and intelligible music....go figure! |

Josh: Well, hate to say it, but FOR ME, it was the worst of the lot. Very dead sounding ...absolutely nothing special in looks or sound. Just remembered another one I tried was the Selmer Concept TT - was the most beautifull of all and seemed to sound exactly like a vintage Martin Indiana I own, but w/better intonation and a stronger sound....still, for me, the JBX was king! | |
