![]() | B&S challengers I'm looking to get a new trumpet soon and i love the way the B&S challenger 2 plays. I've looked on the ja-music site, and i love the challenger DBX, just because it's the closest outside look and function of my current one. I know the only difference is the reverse lead pipe and the bore size. I know that this lets you blow freer through the trumpet, but will it make a difference in the sound(about the reverse lead pipe, i'm not worried about the bore size)? Could anyone tell me if there's a clear difference in the way they play if they've done a side by side comparison? |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: B&S challengers Kanstuls are very good, quality instruments made in Anaheim, CA, by Mr. Zig Kanstul. If you went through his history, you'd find there's not many American horn makers Zig didn't work for (Olds, Benge, I think Conn at one point). They've got a pretty wide line of horns for just about every application. I've heard some people give some complaints about their valves being a bit sticky during the break-in period, but I think most of that is due to improper lubrication and cleaning of the valve cylinders to clean out any metal wear that occurs early on. Usually they have very good valves. I recently got a Kanstul 1537, which is basically a Bach Strad clone (much like the B&S you've got), and I absolutely love it. Excellent horns, in my opinion.

![]() | Re: B&S challengers I own a Challenger C trumpet (and love it), and I played a DBX Bb once. I hated it, but I know people that loved the way it felt. You need to test all the trumpets you can get your hands on to find one. And please don't get it because it looks the coolest.

![]() | Re: B&S challengers lol, of course not, i don't like it just because it looks cool, but because it's outside design is very close to my current trumpet. Of course, usually people who play a different key trumpet don't like many other Bb or other key trumpets. At least that wat i've heard. Yes, i think i might get a Kantsul if i don't like the dbx if i get a chance to play it |

![]() | Re: B&S challengers What might help you a little is to play two horns that are the same model except for the leadpipe side by side just to feel the configuration difference - it's usually pretty easy to find a Yamaha dealer that carries both the 8335 and 8335RGS. This wouldn't neccesarily tell you how the B&S would play, but if you preferred the reverse leadpipe, you'd probably be safe to order it since you already like it's standard leadpipe partner. Good Luck!

![]() | Re: B&S challengers Have a B&S Challenger II JH model C-trumpet, it's a decent enough horn. Would really like to upgrade to a Yamaha Chicago though, am just lacking the money for it.. The Bb Challengers that I've tried have been OK horns, but there are plenty other options out there. Also tried the DBX briefly but didn't find it to my liking. Have you tried the Jupiter XO trumpet? I've heard good things about it, but haven't played it yet myself. |
