Question B&S Flugel Horns

Anyone played a B&S Flugel? I have played on a couple of their trumpets and they seem really nice. They wouldn't be my first choice. But they played fine. Especially for the price. How does the flugel compare. Any opinions?

Dave Mickley is on a distinguished road
My wife went looking for a flugel last summer and we took a tuner and our own mouthpieces and went to several stores, including Brasswind and Woodwind. We played a variety of flugels and the one that played the most in tune and had the "sound" she was looking for was the Sam Ash pro model which after getting it home turned out to be a B&S horn. A pro player who is sponsored by V1 asked to play that flugel, tried it and liked it better than his horn. Sam Ash carries two flugels, a cheap Chinese that would make a good door stop and the B&S which we got at a bargain [they do deal if you catch them in the right mood]. Dave

How much for that Elaboration?

I'm just looking for something that will get me by on a gig every once in a long while. I think the BS trumpets are decent and the Flugels seem to have a good price.

I assume that the B&S Flugel is a copy of some other model. Anybody know what?

The Elaboration Series for B&S is definitely not cheap, but they are very cool instruments. If you're looking for something inexpensive, we just got in a bach Aristocrat (made in Taiwan) Flugel that plays surprisingly well, comes with case and is very affordable. Something maybe to check out. Take care!

B&S Elaboration

I tried an Elaboration once. I believe it had extra long valve caps of different lengths. You will want to try this one before you buy it, trust me...I tried their trumpets, and liked them, the Bbs.

I have an Eb by B&S and love it. It's a heck of a horn for an amazingly cheap price (I won it on ebay for $650!).

I have played the flugels and think they are okay. For my money I might go the route of a used Yamaha over the B&S (even though I hate Yamaha valves) for intonation and centering.

FWIW,

T
