| Mezzo Forte User | bach 229G bell I have a Melk conversion Eb with a 229 bell on it right now. I am sending it to him to get the D bell an slides made, but he doesnt have any regular 229 bells in stock. He does have a 229G and 229GH. I have very little experience with G bells. I know they tend to be a little darker/warmer but how well would this work on a D? Any ideas? |

| Re: bach 229G bell I had a 229G bell on a C180L. The sound of the horn was very nice, but it was difficult to play in tune. I eventually ended up on a Yamaha Chicago C. I don't know if that helps or not because I ended up ditching the horn. I think it would make a very smooth sounding D trumpet. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: bach 229G bell The G signifies the material that the bell is made of (gold instead of yellow brass). I think the leadpipe has more to do with the Bach intonation problems than the bell. Sound used to be more important than intonation until Yamaha and others proved that you could have it all! The beauty of working with an artisan like Melk, Harrelson or a number of others, is that they can fix the problem. If he says that it will be OK, it will be! |

| Re: bach 229G bell I personally love G bells for smaller horns. It helps darken them up a bit. I have had two Bach Eb/D trumpets. My first was a straight 239 bell. This one that I have now has a 239G and I have to say the difference is huge. I would recommend the G bell without a doubt. I want my smaller horns sounding as close as possible to my C trumpet. | Re: bach 229G bell I agree with Benjamin. I've been playing on a 239G for years and love it for all-around symphonic stuff. That said, I just got a Yamaha Chicago C and a Kuhn ritary C, bith of which I also love, for different reasons. The Yammie is amazing and extremely versatile, the rotary has a gorgeous burnished tone which never spreads or breaks up at any volume, but there are times when only my dear old Bach will do (though those times are rare). Go for the gold! |
