Bach Chicago C

i'm looking for some insight about the new Bach Chicago C. Differences, comparisions with the standard Bach C or with the new Yamaha C trumpets.

Thanks,

Erik.

I don't know much about them but I get the feeling they are designed as more of an aniversery/throw back type of model. They feature the old school braces and shorter span tuning slide. I don't think it was designed to compeat with the Yamaha/Malone. Instead it is more of a novelty item. I beleive they are priced the same as other Strads.

Just my 2c and I could be way off.

I have one at home for testing purposes, but I'm interested in the views of other players. I'm not a C-trumpet player so any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe they have been released here yet, so you probably won't find many people who have played them. With the strike on, it could be a while before anyone sees them.

Dylan,

They have been released here. My second, Bob Dorer, has one. I believe Doug Carlsen, who has played the Artist model, ordered one after trying Bob's.

Hey
I have one of the Chicagos, it was made the last day before the strike, so I barely managed to get it . Anyways, I have tested it a fair amount against other instruments and have noticed several things.
It does NOT play like a Mt. Vernon C trumpet. I have several, among them a prototype for the CSO's horns. The new Bachs do play tighter etc, but do not have the same sound or feel of the old ones.
In my opinion the Chicagos are much better than the stock Elkharts, and they have really great intonation.
In regards to it compared to the Yamaha, I thought that the Yamaha was easier to play, but didnt have "the sound". It just was kinda dullish, no other way to describe it really...
George Vosburgh and I played it against his NY L-229. Guess what, the NY won haha.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Is it a lighter horn compared to the stock Elkhardt Bachs ? And can you decribe the sound of the new Chicago with the Elkhardt or Mt.Vernons?

Any idea why the horn is shipped with a 7C, I thought most classical players where playing big mpcs.

It is in fact a fair amount lighter than a standard Elkhart C trumpet, but about the same in terms of weight as a Mt. Vernon.
The Chicago has a much brighter and focused sound than the standard Bach C, which is darker and rounder.
While the Chicago is like the Mt. Vs in terms of the brightness and focus of the sound, it doesnt have any of the core of the Mt. Vernons. It doesnt have a great dark, soft sound like the vintage ones. When playing something like the Great Gate of Kiev, it is a little harder to notice the difference between the new one and old because both light up so easily. However, playing the soft solos in Mahler 2 sounds unbelievably better on the Mt. V.
All in all though, it is a very good horn, just not the best IMHO

Well, it doesn't suprise me. I'm playing vintage Bachs (Bb) myself so I understand what you mean by the core of the Mt.Vernons...
