![]() | Bach Eb/D Trumpets I might be getting an Eb/D Trumpet and have been thinking about brands. I looked first at the bach which is at a more reasonable price for a new one but have had mixed reviews. I have a friend who has one and it is one heck of a horn..amazing. I have heard that others have played some real dogs too. I have heard the reputation from Schilke but their price is pretty tough to work with. I realize that getting a used horn may be the best bet but i wanted to know specifically what people's thoughts were on the Bach horns and if they would be worth getting. -Jacob

The only bach Eb I have played was lou ranger's. It was a bach longbell with an XL bore. Only one I have ever seen.

A friend of mine has a long bell that is better in tune than most Bach C trumpets. that is tha onlly one that I remember playing. What ever you do stay away from the short bell Bach. It would be a great horn if it's intonation resembled that of a trumpet.

| Pianissimo User | http://thompsonmusic.com/store/product1605.html I just played one of these the other day and it was just as good as my blackburn. I would also look into what Charlie Melk or Ken Larson can do. I have played a Bach long bell Eb - and with THAT horn, I was not impressed... |

![]() ![]() | Hey Jacob, How's it going? Boston treating you ok? It snowed here yesterday, so go figure.... I've played some really great E-flat and D trumpets, but I've played some real dogs too. I've had some pretty bad experiences with Schilkes. Don't let anybody tell you that Bach is the only inconsistent brand out there, the E3L can be as squirrely as any Strad. I think the first thing you need to do is decide which style of E-flat you want. I really like the tighter wrap of the Bachs, but many (most?) people like the long bell style of Schilke, Blackburn, Stomvi, etc. A while ago, Stomvi was a great buy, but recently they have raised their prices above 2G, so it's really about whatever horn plays best for you. Don't rule out that Peterson E-flat/D on thompson music. Eric is a Twin Cities guy who does excellent work (Charlie Schlueter played a Peterson-modified C trumpet before he played Monettes). If you're looking to spend a little more, check out the Monette E-flat on Thompson. PM me and I'll give you a deal on it -Jimi

![]() ![]() | I really like the sound of the small Bach 304 also. I played John Rommel's after I bought a Schilke and almost wished I had bought the Bach. Try out a bunch of horns, find the sound you like and go from there.

![]() | Mr. Lloyd Geisler had a New York City Bach Eb that was phenomenal! He loaned it to me for a recital back in 1972, and it sounded like a C trumpet. When he retired he sold it to a student, and it was stolen. I wish I had bought it! Roy Griffin |
