It is pretty funny how you guys can resurrect a thread that is a year old and chase it as tho the original poster still needs an answer.

I'm glad they did - this was just the info I was looking for! Son is trying out a used Omega today - $750. Can barely find any info on these on the web. Music store clerk said they are out of production. Will this make finding parts difficult, or can you just swap out strad parts?

The few old eBay auctions I found on the Omega make $750 a bit more than the eBay going rate.

We'll see if son likes it. Otherwise, he's narrowed his choice down to a new Allegro, around $1300.

Re: Bach Omega Strad vs. Bach Strad

I know it's more than a year late, but why would anyone be willing to spend $750-1300 on student models, when they can buy extremely good pro stuff for just a tiny bit more?

Because they often have their minds made up BEFORE they post here.

A new pro horn starts at about $1500 (Yamaha 6xxx for instance). A decent intermediate around $800, student below $500. A beginner is not getting a favor by starting with a pro horn. They are built for players with decent breath support and ears. The student horns are more durable, easier to play and play in tune. Most players have no grief sticking with those inexpensive horns for 4-5 years. If the fire is lit, then a pro instrument can be considered!

Last one (Omega) I saw was a near identical duplicate of my TR200
