Bach question I have just bought a Bach Strad C trumpet off Ebay and am very interested in the description it came with. It was advertised as a Bach Stradivarious C model 229 medium bore. From what I can determine Bach did not make a medium bore C trumpet (only ML and L) 229 is a reference to the bell is it not? Could anyone confirm this?? Time will tell anyway ... It's on it's way!! Sorry if this has been covered in any earlier threads.

Re: Bach question 229 is the bell. Did the picture on Ebay actually indicate M bore of is that just the description? Sometimes sellers don't identify things precisely. Also, on older horns, Bach made a lot more M bore instruments than are made today. Perhaps it really is an M bore C. I guess you'll know when you get it. pat

Re: Bach question Hi Pat, Thanks for the quick reply. Ebay being Ebay, when you think you're on a winner with a badly listed item, you don't show your hand. I picked this horn up for a song because I think the "Medium bore" description scared people off. Unfortunately the photo of the valve casing wasn't clear enough to show anything. This horn was manufactured in 2004 and is in perfect as new condition. I picked it up for under A$1000 (US$800) According to the current Bach website, they only make two C trumpets: Strad model C180 in ML or L bores, and Strad model C180SL229 CC Strad which is only made in large bore. That, as far as I can determine, is all that is available today. What I am wondering is, did they make a medium bore as recently as 2004? Yes ...time will tell! Either way I'm happy, though I'd much prefer the large bore!

Re: Bach question Bach made some medium bore C trumpets many, many years ago. My guess is that if it is in fact a medium bore it may be something put together from parts or is a much older instrument. It's probably a misunderstanding by the seller though.

He started with a "Buy it now price" of $1500 but that disappeared when bidding started from scratch. He's probably hitting his head against a wall now! eBay Australia: Bach Stradivarius C Trumpet (item 220112213493, end time 24-May-07 17:15:06 AEST) I guess it's a gentle reminder for to anyone selling an instrument on Ebay. Start it at a price you are happy with! I am starting to think I got very lucky! I'll keep you posted | |

Re: Bach question I'm a winner!!! This horn looks virtually untouched. It might as well be brand new! I got it for A$960 which is US$789 and I reckon because he said it was a medium bore nobody even looked at it. Funny ... its got CL on the 2nd valve so it is as I suspected, the 229 large bore. eBay can be a nasty thing for some people... I almost feel sorry for the seller ......almost!
