![]() | Bach strad lead pipe? I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping this might be as good of place as any to throw this out there... I was hunting through some things at work and found two trumpet lead pipes labeled Bach Strad #43(no part numbers, just that). They are, however, not your standard ML bore. A standard slide from a 180 ML is too large, and it almost seems too small to be for a medium bore. If I look through the conn-selmer parts section online they don't actually list a 43 lead pipe in a M. The only thing I can think is that it's for an MLV. From what I understand the lead pipe/top half of tuning slide is the .453(M) bore while the tuning slide expands to the ML bore at the bottom. Am I right in understand that? If so, it still seems too small for a medium bore. If anyone out there has a medium bore slide or MLV lead pipe on a horn, perhaps I can get a measurement from the tuning slide(outer measurement of topside) or inner bore measurement of lead pipe. It's the same length as a normal Bb lead pipe and fits a trumpet mouthpiece... the receiver is also stamped 43. the Anyone who could help with some measurements and or ideas as to what I have, that would be great. Thanks very much |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Bach strad lead pipe? The 43 leadpipe is standard on the Vindabona Bach, which was/is supposed to be like a true "Teutonic" instrument. It can be a lot of work to play, and the sound produced is way easier on a good rotary trumpet. Schilke maintained that a dark sound came from a small bore/ big bell configuration.

![]() | Re: Bach strad lead pipe? This is a leadpipe (#43) for a lightweight Bb Bach Stradivarius trumpet. As he states......"a standard slide from a 180ML is too large". That is correct! The bore will be the same....but the tuning slide I.D. will be 'smaller' to accomodate the O.D. tubes of the lightweight tuning slide. Patrick Diller Conn-Selmer Inc. Parts and Service Coordinator |

![]() | Re: Bach strad lead pipe? Ok, so lets see if I get this. This would be used in conjunction with a light weight slide. That slide would also have the same bore size of .459 as a normal ML, but then thinner tubing walls to make the outer diameter of the slide smaller? The lead pipe also being the same as a "normal" 43 lead pipe only thinner side walls... I think that's what I'm hearing, please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks for all the info so far. We deal with a whole bunch of Strads in the shop but they're all pretty generic as far as normal 180ml with the 37 bell, kind of stock/standard... |

![]() | Re: Bach strad lead pipe? You work at Conn-Selmer? Would you happen to know the price of replacing a bell and leadpipe? or where I could purchase individual parts?

![]() | Re: Bach strad lead pipe? Sure! I can give you the retail pricing of the bell (which bell?) and leadpipe (which leadpipe?). If you are a repair tech with a NAPBIRT number and/or storefront, we can set you up with an account to buy direct from us. Otherwise, I can help you find a local shop that can purcahse for you. We do not have a retail license to sell direct to the public if you do not have a music shop or repair shop. Just shoot me an email off line and I'll be happy to help. pdiller@conn-selmer.com |
