bach strad question

Are Strads really the best? I need a new trumpet, and I am seriously considering that brand. Hopefully I can save enough money for it. Anyway, are they really worth $2500? How about the Yamaha Professional? Any opinions or advice are great. Thanks

Re: bach strad question

Oh, also do sellers usually allow a day or two for trial playing? I don't want to buy it and hate it, then not be able to send it back.

Re: bach strad question

No they are not the best.

I would first consider brands like BS and Yamaha. I also saw in another thread around here that NYTC has a Bb trumpet for $1500

I would try these options before the Bach.

Re: bach strad question

The Bachs are very good horns. They are the center of the sound world in many ways. They have set the standard for many years and what anything seems to be compared too for the most part. Find a good one that matches you and you will have a very playable in almost any situation.

Now are they the best??? Not really. That is just because maybe you want a completely different sound for some other situation. Maybe you do not like being like everyone else. Maybe you just come alive on a Schilke.

The sound quality seems to be better as of late like they are made better (however finish seems to have some nitpicking issues, which for 2400 bones or so it should not have) but for the price it definitely opens up the choices available to you quite a bit.

For the difference you simply must give other horns a blow to see if something really stands out for YOU!!!

In no particular order Try....

C.G. Conn Vintage 1
Schilke B and S series (X is just B13 and B14 from what i have read)
Kanstul
Yamaha 6xxx Series, 8xxxx series horns
Getzen (probably the best customer service from what i have read in the forums)
Stomvi Elite series
B & S Challengers

Re: bach strad question

Nobody pays retail for Bach trumpets. I can tell you that my local Bach dealer prices his Bach's to sell. He does not sell at retail.

I am not particular as to what you buy. You must look around for the best price.

Would that be Bachs of years ago, right before the strike and after?
With Conn-Selmer, can the newer Bachs be as good?

Best wishes,

Lloyd
