![]() | beginners model Yamaha or Holton Hi i'm about to give my loaned trumpet back and buy a new model for myself..I'd like to buy from my local shop and have £400 to spend.. The three models i'm looking at are the HOLTON T612 or 602 or the YAMAHA YTR4335G .. I guess at this price theres not a lot in it..I will try and play all three, but as i can barely play just thought i'd ask for some advice.. cheers Andy

![]() | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton i have a yamaha 4325s (predecessor to the 4335), which is actually the 2nd one ive had. when i quit playing after high school i got rid of mine and then my sister in law had the exact same horn and my wife bought it for me. i believe it to be a solid good sounding piece. quality seems to be good and i like it as much as the couple of newer bach strads ive played. theyre relatively inexpensive and should get you through a good haul. play what you can and pick the one that feels best for you. good luck with your search. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton I play all of the instruments that my students get BEFORE they are bought. The parents are warned not to go it alone because they probably will not be doing anybody a favor. Get your teacher, or some reasonably advanced player to go with you and help you. You DESERVE the best possible start!

![]() | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton You might want to consider a student Bach model like the TR300 - that was my first horn and it served me well, but as has been said before, make sure you try out the horn before you buy it! Since you are just starting out is there any chance you could take a more experienced player along with you to help you with what to look for in a trumpet? Really good advice from rowuk! Chris.

![]() | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton I've been biting my tongue. 400 Pounds is about $800. You might want to do some searches to see what a fair price is for the horns you mentioned. Hope It All Goes Well, Richard Oliver |

| Fortissimo User | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton True, Richard; but in the UK the price structure is entirely different than in the USA what with 17.5% VAT, import costs, markup to accomodate business tax, etc. They really do get shafted over there on a lot of stuff. A new Strad or Schilke is dang near as expensive as an Eclipse (or close enough as makes no difference). |

![]() | Re: beginners model Yahmaha or Holton Hi Andy, I'm reasonably close to you - I live near Poole (near Bournemouth) so if you do need any help drop me a PM - I am by no means a professional though, or of anywhere near that standard - but I am a reasonably experienced student and would be happy to help if you need me! Have you looked at John Packer Woodwind & Brass Instruments and Accessories A very reputable company with some of the lowest prices I can find for new instruments (in Britain) and they do operate a "try before you buy" policy on demand, meaning that you could order a couple of the trumpets that you mention above, and just sticking with the one you like best, or you can arrange to visit them in person... Chris.
