MrLT is an unknown quantity at this point
bells and backbores

I'm lucky enough to own an eclipse LR trumpet. I bought this horn over a year ago and it seemed like the right choice. My playing has improved a lot over the intervening time (cos i can't put the horn down!) and when I went back to get a flugel horn I tried some of the other horns ( as you do) including the MR, which I found was a much easier blow with a more secure upper register. At the moment I use a warburton #4 (tight) backbore with the LR to give a bit of resistance but I'm thinking of switching to a MR and using a larger backbore.
Am i making a good choice here, any views from those who know more about this than me would be welcome.

I reckon it's pretty much up to you and what you think you need and what gives you the "best" setup. When I got my Eclipse MR I had been playing a Schilke B1... another "open" horn. During the trial for the Schilke I had found that Warburton 4/B9 was the right setup for me... very "open". From there I went looking for a couple of minor intonation improvements and ended up on a GR 66***.... again quite open, especially with the GR backbore design. It works perfectly for my MR and I've not changed in almost three years now (briefly tried a 66** with a one-size tighter backbore and shallower cup but it didn't work at all for me... guess I just prefer "open").

You may not experience the same effects however! I'm only relating what I use and how I ended up there. I could probably improve my high register somewhat with a bit tighter backbore but I happen to like the intonation I'm getting right now and sound quality is more important to me than playing above 2nd ledger.
