Benge Eb on E-bay. Anyone ever played one?

Hello all,

I saw this on e-bay today and had never seen one before.
Benge 3X .460bore Silver Professional Eflat Trumpet - eBay (item 180234242150 end time Apr-27-08 12:02:45 PDT)

Have any of you had any experience with one of these horns?

What is your opinion of it?

Thanks,

That one looks pretty cheap, but unless it's just for playing around the house you'd be better off saving up for a good Eb.

As of this minute, its at 450.00..even if its a UMI, its worth that or more. If it plays..thats a plus..450.00 doesn't buy much these days..if I needed a horn in that key, I wouldn't hesitate

I wouldn't waste my money on it. For E flat/D I prefer tunable bell models. I have a B&S I bought used for $900.00. great horn.

The key words in your reply are "I prefer". The original poster may not have the budget for a higher end horn. 450.00 will buy little of anything, these days. If the horn will make music, its worth 450.00

Re: Benge Eb on E-bay. Anyone ever played one?

I borrowed an LA Benge Eb/D from a friend for a couple of months several years ago. The Eb side had poor intonation, but the D side was more manageable. Maybe UMI improved things on the Eb/D? The ad doesn't mention the D tuning slide. That would be another turnoff for me, as I would want a horn to play in both keys.

So how exactly does an Eb/D horn change pitches? Does it switch bells for different tunings?
