![]() | best finish/plate for lightweight bach? I'm considering getting my 200,XXX Bach overhauled. It is a 37 with Lightweight bell, originally gold lacquer. Any tips on what finish/plating might be best for this light horn? Thanks, Doug |

![]() | I'm not sure it matters that much. The new lacquers are pretty thin (as compared to 30 years ago) and the finishes are all thinly applied. Gold might be the worst option as it has to go over silver. It you like the new scratched brass look, the lacquer has more surface area to adhere to and goes on nicely of it. But realistically, any finish would be fine. I would suggest getting the one you like the best. Jim |

![]() | Thanks Jim. Any reason that Borodi might not be the best place to have this done? I recall reading that they specialize in certain manufacturers and that Bach wasn't one of those listed... Feel free to PM me with any opinions. I am being cautious coz this horn is my "first love" and I'd be crushed if anything happened to it. (of couse if anything did happen, I'd have to check out the new Kanstuls... |

![]() | Hiwiller My question to you would be:- What do sound do you want from the horn? as some finishes can affect that. Let me know and i can comment on a finish i believe would be suitable. Best Wishes Leigh

| Forte User | I am telling you guys, I have no idea why nickel silver isn't used as much as plating? It gets a really warm sound, and I detect no sharpness at all in the sound, like regular nickel plate... Van

Thanks for the reply. Exactly what you said is why I asked. Right now I get a nice soft round tone in the middle and lower registers and with the right mp, a great sizzle in the upper register. I like it just the way it sounds with the factory finish. That said, I wouldn't mind a nice plating/fancy finish like we all see with your horns Cheers, Doug. | |

![]() | I don't know exactly what "black nickel" is, but it ain't nickel silver. Folks, nickel silver isn't platable -- it's an alloy, like brass, that horns are either made of or not.
