| New Friend | Best Trumpet for it's price In your opinion what is the trumpet that has the best value. I am searching for my future trumpet and I am not sure what I want right now. I have a very King Silver Flair, but I am getting ready for college and I am a music education major and would like a really decent trumpet that is worth every cent. |

![]() | Re: Best Trumpet for it's price I suppose a better question to ask yourself is, how much are you willing to spend? Then...start seeking out things in and around that price range. There are as many choices as you have money...plus, what type style of music...sound you desire...etc, etc, etc, etc.... More money doesn't necessarily equal a better horn...however, you might not want to waste your time looking at a Rolls Royce when all you can afford (and will still work great for you) is a Chevrolet. Best of luck....

![]() | Re: Best Trumpet for it's price i used to play a bach until just over a year ago when i bought a new one and i found it lifeless. So i went searching for a new horn and tried every horn i could then i found the geneva trumpets website and i spoke to tim who makes the instruments told him my requirements and i went to the workshop and tried a few trumpets but settled on the platypus (made for Gerrard Presencer) this is by far the best trumpet i have ever played, the intonation, tuning and versatility of this horn is second to none all geneva's are hand made to order i had to wait 6 weeks for it to be made but worth every second. i would consider no other make any more, the trumpets start from 795 GBP the valve action is superb they make a trumpet for every genre of playing i hope this helps |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Best Trumpet for it's price DTPG, there is nothing wrong with a King Silver Flair. I think anyone that claims "best trumpet I have ever played" has not compared fairly very many top brands. NOBODY can claim to be the best anymore. There are SOOOO many superior instruments out there - most with only relatively minor differences in sound and blow. It may make sense to wait until you know your professors' preferences. It is much easier when studying to "go with the flow". I did not say that that approach is "better", but you will need to interact with other players and your prof can help there! Horns that are worth every cent are only definable AFTER you have played them. A good Bach qualifies (you may have to play several to find one though!), Yamaha starting with the 6xxx series has the best consistency on the market, Kanstul has reasonably priced quality pro horns and the list goes on and on! Even the most expensive instruments are owned by players that think that they are worth every cent, so that characteristic probably will not help you much! I started a thread: http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb/f139...ces-30829.html (Trumpet Design-Our Experiences) exactly for this reason. Here you get 1st hand reports from the horns that people actually own! No cheap shots at the competition - only actual playing experiences. Here you will find many players that are excited about their instruments - and some of the grief that others have gone through! There are many comments as to what type of music the owner plays and what else they have tried! ilikenicethings: exactly what made your Bach "lifeless". Did you not play test it before purchase? I have experienced "out of tune" or "uneven blow" but the common denominator was ALWAYS that Bach sound - never lifeless! Your post seems to be just an ad for Geneva. I would suggest playing an Eclipse, Taylor, Kanstul, Yamaha, Edwards, NYTC, Jupiter, Monette, Callichio, Flip Oakes, a good Bach or one of many other reputable brands before making a blanket statement about no competition. Fill us in on what you have learned after giving other top brands a real chance. There NEVER will be one Brand for all. There are too many different players out there and just because Gerard has a financial interest in Geneva, that doesn't make his "opinion" worth more than any other endorsing artist like Manny Laureano, Trent Austin, Jens Lindemann to name just a few TMers. An open mind is always the best solution!

![]() ![]() | Re: Best Trumpet for it's price While this is not a comment on the topic at hand, one certainly has to admire ROWUK for the general clarity and objectivity of his posts. In a forum dominated by not-so-humble opinions (perhaps an earmark of those who choose to play such an in-your-face instrument) it seems he has a talent for for whitling the discussion down to size and making the outcome more manageable for us all. |

![]() | Re: Best Trumpet for it's price Hi. As you're going to go through college with this horn, it might be worth considering these few points. Its likely to take a battering, so a horn thats tough, well built, easy to get parts and at a reasonable price and simple to service. Resale value. Coz chances are, by the time you've finished there it wont be worth much anyway! When your done at college and started to develop 'your' style, then thats a good time to start looking around at a horn that helps you achieve that goal. Keep this in mind, the horn doesnt make you a good player. Practice makes for good players far more than a fancy horn. So, my advice would be:- Don't spend to much. Enjoy yourself. Listen to everyone else then practice , practice and practice. Dont worry to much about the horn, so long as it works. You make the sound, not the trumpet. The trumpet is just a tool to make your life that bit easier and more comfortable. Second hand, best conditon you can find Pro model Yamaha. Whichever one plays nice for you. They are dependable, easy to fix and the finish is the toughest out there. In short, 'it does what it says on the box'. Have fun and good luck at college. Andy Taylor. Taylor Trumpets. |

Well said, and by a trumpet builder nonetheless (beautiful horns by the way). I have been feeling the urge myself to move on to something from my yamaha 4325, but im also a comeback player after 6 years and am back full swing as a music major. i refuse to spend a good chunck of change on a horn until I feel I can properly judge what im buying. so for me, until I build up my chops quite a bit more, the 4325 is capable of more than I am anyway, so ill hang on to it for a bit more | |
