| New Friend | Best Valve Block? Hi, I am wondering, in your opinion, what the best valve block is (for C trumpet), especially for symphonic work, but one that can be easily played in solo and chamber settings. Thanks for your help!

![]() ![]() | That's a strange question. There a a lot of good valve blocks like Bauerfeind, Bach, Kanstul, Schilke, Getzen. I wouldn't buy a trumpet only because of it's great valves. There are more important things to consider when choosing a horn. |

If the holes are smaller then then bore size then you will feel more resistance. Next to that the weight of the valve block is important. More weight dampens the resonation and gives a darker sound and a bit more projection or a centered sound. Compare it with adding heavy caps on a horn. |

![]() | I don't know what company Andy Taylor uses for his valve blocks. All I know is that they are made in Germany and they are the BEST I have ever seen and used. As I understand, that from this company, you can get them in different weights and if you want the weight that Andy Taylor uses, then you will have to purchase them from him. Does anybody know the name of that German company? Liad Bar-EL |

![]() | Thanks Erik, I wanted to bring this thread back on top to let everyone know that Taylor and Eclipse horns use the Bauerfeind valve block. It's probably THE best of all valve blocks on the market today and for sure the best that I have ever used. Liad Bar-EL |

What bell/leadpipe are you looking at (I know René Spada experiments a lot and said for instance, Schilke valves do not work well with Bach bells and leadpipes). Are you interested in light, medium or heavy horns? What horns have you tried and not been happy with?
