Bore Size -- How/where to measure

As a newbie I keep reading about bore size and I am wondering just where the "standard" place is for measuring. I saw one place where it said to pull the second valve slide and measure the inside of the valve slide (which I take to mean the little U shaped peice you have in your hand, not on the instrument). If this is correct, my Holton is right on at .460, but the Barrinton is very off at .499 instead of .459.
Am I measuring at the wrong place? Dave, what does your Barrington measure at? (Assuming I'm at the right place).

I donn' no. When it's all said and done, does size really matter?

That is the method I have always heard taught in these trumpet forums.

By the way, I think your post contains a typo regarding the bore size of your Barrington (.499), as that is not what you said it was in a previous post (.449).

Don't stress about bore size. There is so much more that affects a trumpet. Bore size is one small piece of the pie.

Re: Bore Size -- How/where to measure

You misunderstand my question. I am a mechcanical/technical/hands on kind of guy and I wouldn't care if the bore size was .153, I'd still want to know the correct and proper place to measure it just to satisfy that part of my brain!! Other than that, read my last sentence again. That wasn't entirely tounge in cheek!!! <|:>)

Oh!
Now I get it!
Re-reading that last line of your first post, I finally realize that the .499" measurement *wasn't* for your Barrington!
