    Bundy Trumpet

I bought a Bundy trumpet at a garage sale for $5.00. This trumpet has only 3 or 4 very small dents in it. The finish needs to be redone and the braces that hold the trumpet together all need repairing. on the bell it says Designed by Vincent Bach then under it it says Bundy and under that it says Selmer. The serial number is 330753ML. The guy threw in a Bach cornet mouthpiece marked Vincent Bach Corp New York 10-1/2C. My question is, Is this trumpet worth getting fixed and relaquered? and who does this sort of thing? Thanks

maybe fixed, but not relaquered. the solders suoldn't cost you all that much at the repair shop and the dents, depending on location can be rolled out for cheap as well. maybe.... $75-115ish tops. the laq however is not really needed. the big debate being if it effects the playing enough to warrent $400.00+++. I say No, but the one verifiable benefit of laq is how it protects the brass.
are you planing on playing or selling?

I would get the horn repaired and then see how you like it. Be aware a Bundy is a beginner horn. If you like it and want to keep it then sure get it re-lacquered.

I don't see why it wouldn't be as good a deal to get the minimal repairs by a music store tech, then see if it is for you for any serious use before anything else is done. I also would probably strip it and polish the raw brass rather than lacquer. How are the valves and slide actions? I have put too much money in " bargain " horns more than once. Good luck

Well, if everyone on this site who has dropped too much money into a horn (where we should have known better) decides to post, this thread will get a LOT of posts.

    Re: Bundy Trumpet

Thanks for the advice, I am going to get it fixed but not laquered. My nephew wants to play so I will give it to him, I think it would be a good starter horn for him. I have a Bach 7C mouthpiece he can have also. The real let down of this whole deal was the guy I bought the horn from for $5.00 told me he just sold an old silver horn that had a knob on it that turned it from a B flat to a C trumpet and he sold it for $50.00, talk about being 20 minutes late
