![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | C cornet? Does anyone know the exact length of a Bach D180 trumpet bell? Any thoughts on putting one on a L bore C trumpet valve section with a cornet leadpipe? Would it work, or would it be a paperweight?

![]() | I don't think it would work. Trumpet and cornet leadpipes are different lengths as are the bells. I assume you're trying to compensate for the shorter bell by taking one from a higher keyed trumpet. You have to keep in mind that a D bell would be much tighter than any cornet bell. It also wouldn't have a shepherds crook in the bell. I'm sure Leigh will chime in soon enough but if it works I want a photo essay and a review.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was thinking a 238 or 239 D180 trumpet bell would be short enough that you wouldn't have to cut and rebend the bell or alter the cornet leadpipe more than cutting the tuning slide tubes a little shorter, but I'm not sure as I don't have a D bell to measure. Using a C trumpet flare the horn would probably play well in tune. I can live without a shepards crook.
