| New Friend | Calicchio tuning slide pull distance Calicchio owners! How far out do you pull the main tuning slide to be at A=440? My R37 needs about 7/8ths of an inch. This seems a bit much. What do you think?

![]() | Re: Calicchio tuning slide pull distance Try measuring your leadpipe and then give them a call to see what the actual length should be. I have a friend that had a problem with pulling out over an inch and he found out that the leadpipe was the wrong length! They replaced it for him, no charge. Good luck. BTW it could also be a gap or backbore mismatch with the horn. I'm sure that the gap is different from the Yamaha's or Bach's you are playing on. If you are using a Reeves with interchangeable sleeves try a few (my friend uses a 2 1/2 sleeve and seems to work for him) Last edited by bbswingface; 02-20-2007 at 08:12 PM. |

If the horn responds evenly and doesn't have a super "dead" sound I wouldn't worry about it. Does the horn have a PVA? How about Gap alignment with your mouthpiece? Has it been cleaned recently? One horn I had played so poorly that when I took it get cleaned someone found a wad of paper that was lodged into the bell tube. -T

![]() | Re: Calicchio tuning slide pull distance Yeah, I have a 2/2 that needs about 7/8ths inch pull on tuning slide for a 440 A. I wrote Dave at the Tulsa plant and he replied that Calicchios traditionally have been sharp horns; that if the horn was in tune with itself, then just pull the slide out or use a deeper mp cup. |

| Forte User | Re: Calicchio tuning slide pull distance 7/8ths of an inch really isn't THAT much... now two or three inches is alot... but not even an inch.. thats not bad at all guys.

![]() | Re: Calicchio tuning slide pull distance I wouldn't worry about how far the slide needs pulled out if the horn plays in tune. the more I practice the less I need to pull out. the warmer it is and the more tired I am the more I need to pull out. the main point is "are you in tune through out the scale and up" Dave
