![]() | Capri by Getzen I'm a new trumpet player (been taking lessons only a few months now) and I wanted to know something about the type of horn I've been playing. I purchased it some 20 years ago in a pawn shop and decided to blow the dust off of it and start taking some lessons. On the bell it says "Capri by Getzen". Can anyone tell me anything about this horn? Is it a good one? Old one? Do they still make these? I'm just curious if my 50 bucks 20 years ago was a wise investment. Thanks! |

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen The Capri is Getzen's "step-up" from the student model. I believe that they are still being made. Getzen makes a quality instrument, known particularly for the quality of their valves. I would play it until you feel that the instrument is holding you back. |

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen It is the bridge between the student and pro model, the Eterna Severinsen. I had the Eterna for years and I thought it was great. Ed is right, keep using it until you outgrow it. Bob

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen The Capri C trumpets were pretty awesome horns, prefered by some players over the Eterna, but to get a better trumpet than what you gave now would probably cost around $1000 to start--you can buy a bunch of lessons, mouthpieces, and valve oil for that much money! Have fun!

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen The Capri is a good dependable and well built horn. They are still making them though there have been some minor design changes between triggers on tuning slides and thumb hooks / loops. Enjoy it! |

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen Thanks for all the replies. I was debating whether or not to invest the money to repair my Getzen. I am able to play it but it I can tell it needs work - probably about $90 according to the repairman. Sounds like it would be worthwhile spending the money to get it into tip-top shape. I want to be able to reach my full playing potential and I can't do that if my horn's not up to snuff. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen Well, greenpeppers, Seems to me that is a lot of potential enjoyment for $90. If you played the horn for two more years the cost of repairs amortizes to $45 a year. Seems pretty reasonable to me. It would cost you that much to see a good movie, dinner and transportation. The Getzen Capri will last many years, thus the repair is a good investment. The longer the horn gives you good service, the cheaper the $90 becomes. Best wishes, Lloyd |

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen Two more years!?! I plan on playing as long as my lungs can fill with air! I've been playing woodwinds (clarinet and sax) for close to 30 years and this is my first venture into the brass world. I'm in it for the long haul. I'm having too much fun too stop! |

![]() | Re: Capri by Getzen You already know this however it bears repeating. The Capri line is an excellent line of horns by Getzen. I have a Capri Cornet and it's a real treat to play. Definately fix er up and you'll see that it was well worth it.
