| Re: Cheap Flugelhorn? I have a Jupiter 846RL that's excellent for the money. Great valves unlike the older models and well built, a lot of fun to play with good intonation. I've had a few high end flugels (Calicchio, Conn V1, Kanstul-- all very fine horns by the way) but for the little use they got I just couldn't justify spending that much. Chuck Levin's sells this Jupiter for $699 brand spankin' new (unless they've recently gone up). A real bargain, a clone of the old Yamaha 631 flugels. I tend to think of the Jupiter 846RL as the modern day Cousenons, which were a cheap and overlooked model in their day (now classics). Just make sure you get the rose brass model with the 3rd valve trigger 846RL). Last edited by Mark Bradley : 01-17-2007 at 07:34 AM. |

| Fortissimo User | Re: Cheap Flugelhorn? Ditto the above except that I went even cheaper and got the Jupiter 846L (no 3rd trigger). For the amount of playing I give it the lack of the trigger isn't all that bad; nothing you can't lip down and really it's only the C# and D that need a bit of extra attention. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Cheap Flugelhorn? Thanks for all your advice... but it looks like the cheapest jupiter i can find is 750 and I dont have enough. Does anyone have any experience with any flugelhorns costing around 500? Are there even any horns around that price worth a flip or should i just save up a bit more and get a jupiter? |

| Fortissimo User | Re: Cheap Flugelhorn? Given the exchange rate (I bought mine in Canada about 7 years back for $800) it seems to be pretty fair. I have read on one of the UK websites that they like one of the Blessing models also for a student level instrument. You might check them out but I have no experience on them myself. I suppose a used Getzen isn't part of your consideration? |
