![]() | Re: Chicago C trumpets I prefer the Yamaha, however I will admit that the horns do differ somewhat between each other. I tried about five or six different Yamaha Chicago's before I bought mine and bought the one that I and the critics I had listen thought was the best. |

![]() | Re: Chicago C trumpets I'm not sure if it's fair to call the Chicago label on these horns pure marketing. Bach carefully used the original plans they used in 1955 to build a set of C trumpets for the Chicago Symphony, more than one of which is still used by current members of the CSO, and Yamaha took those old Bach horns and did their best to make a modern updated version of them. Not exactly pure marketing hype. Both versions play very well and are good choices, although I prefer the new Bach Philly, basically a Chicago C with a regular weight bell. JU |

![]() | Re: Chicago C trumpets Yamaha chicago c and xeno are great horns I like the xeno (the principal trumpet and associate principal trumpet in my city's orchestra both play xeno's) but both are great choices, for a bach try the bach philadelphia I thought it played a lot better than the chicago, and Chris Martin while he is a yamaha performing artist plays bach trumpets( as does Phil Smith, Michael Sachs, and David Bilger) fyi |

My personal opinion is that Bud Herseth took what he got and HIS talent made it happen. That was lucky for Bach, not the other way around. The name "Chicago", "New York" or "Philly" are pure marketing terms. Bach will never be able to claim that THEY created Buds, Bills, Gils or Herbs sound.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Chicago C trumpets I'm with John. Like he said, the Chicago was built from old Mt. Vernon specs (the C trpts sold to the Chicago Symphony), the Philly is a Chicago that had changes specified by David Bilger (of the Philly Orchestra). Bach isn't claiming to recreate anyone's sound, just one of the horns that has changed a lot since it was brought out. They play well.

![]() | Re: Chicago C trumpets I'm not a symphony player, and I would defer to more than a few that contribute here. However to suggest that Bud, Chris Martin (plays an old Bach C from Hagstrom as much or more than his Yamaha) or Phil Smith play their Bachs not because of something the horns does to produce the result they are looking for seems a bit, well anti brand don't you think? It not a matter of its call a Chicago, Philly etc, it is if the horn works for the player. John as many know is a professional symphony player, and Dylan is a pro as well so their contributions provide merit as much, perhaps more that some frequent contributors. I like the Yamaha Chicago C. Easy blow, I just can't get a sound that I'm pleased with on it for me. The Bach "Chicago"design blueprints were adheredto pretty faithfully, particularly the leadpipe mandrels and bell gauge. They were reproduced at a fair cost to the Bachs folks, and the sounds that these new Bachs produce are impressive. Playability/response is also great. Robin, I can't say why your 229H was less that a satisfactory example build wise. I imagine that you get the result that you percieve aurally or you would have sold it. Hey they are all good, and both brands float quite a few boats. Here is an old link that proves the point. Its all good! Forum: trumpetherald.com
