Chinese Horn

This photograph shows the brass flashing at both the upper and lower second valve tuning slide ports. All of the tubes soldered into the valve block had flashing. The valves were not usable. I considered buying a cylinder hone in hopes that honing would take out the flashing but I decided to send it back to the importer. The upper tube is near side flashing and the lower tube is on the far side of the cylinder.
All of the tubes soldered to the valve block that could be inspected had burs. Which is to say the tubing was not deburred before soldering the ferrel to the tube.

I am not so certain that it would block it. I am sure that it would cause a violent turbulence. Of even greater concern is, what happens to the sound waves and the valve acuation?

Shiney Red Trumpet ... mmmmmmm ... Chinese like red lacquer, very traditional, nice rich colour - a happy colour ... are you happy?
What do you mean, it plays like a Panda? But it's SHINEY and RED.

Should have opted for the blue one!

Re: Chinese Horn

The valves do not actuate. The flashing is acting like springs pressing against the piston. No amount of oil will make it work. All of the tubes entering valves had flashing. The reamer was pushed through the sleeve too fast so the tubing deformed rather than cut.

The horn in it's present state as a bugle plays with a nice sound. If they had spent the time to make the valve block correctly it could have passed as a trumpet.

There was no argument about sending it back. All communication was by email. The purchase was made on Amazon so they probably could not risk an argument from me or the Amazon people.

I will mention there is no serial number on the horn.

Geez, that will make it hard to research your horn on "Piece-of-junk-loyalist.com"

Re: Chinese Horn

I was hoping the horn would be decent so I could buy a green one to match. They would look good as Christmas ornaments. But, if someone wanted to know if they played I would have to say they were junk on the inside. Sending it back is the thing to do.

When I packed it this morning I saw an extra plastic bag at the bottom of the horn box. This tells me that this horn was sent back previously.
