Conn 85A Cornet

I recently acquired a Conn Connstellation 85A cornet. It has a shepard's crook and two slide triggers.
It is a nice horn but I can't find out anything about it. It is a UMI Conn horn and the serial number has a 5 then a space and then 59xxxx. I am curious about the specs. It seems similar in construction to the Vintage One.

Re: Conn 85A Cornet

I have found this description at Don Mackrills Music Stop
Has a picture too. Looks identical to a King 2220 for which kingbrass.com has the same exact description. Looks like it may be an international version. Probably a very nice cornet. Enjoy. My $0.02 follows.... But this is why UMI has so much trouble with brands other than Bachs. Why/How would you be loyal to a brand when they sell the same horn in several makes. Weird.

CONNstellation

Features: Key of Bb. British-style short model cornet designed with the brass band in mind. With a responsive .462"(11.73mm) bore, 4-3/4"(121mm) one-piece hand-crafted rose brass shepherd's crook bell, rose brass leadpipe, monel pistons, 1st and 3rd slide triggers, lacquered brass finish. Conn British-style #7 mouthpiece, 7608L woodshell case.

Re: Conn 85A Cornet

Thank You. That is it except mine is in silver. It is a mystery to me why they would not want to spend the time to build an on line library of their past products. The point of a brand as I understand it is to reduce the amount of decision making necessary for the customer to make a purchase and lay the ground for future purchases from past customers: i.e. brand loyalty. How silly to throw that away!

I have wondered that for years now. Should be able to look up serial numbers and find out what it was exactly when it was built. Like Bach shop cards etc... Sure maybe not photo copies of the card but the info on it. Like bell, bore, build date etc....

Would be so nice.

Also why they basically make stencil horns for their different (used to be Major Brands) Brands kind of sucks too. Should have some ties back to their heritage (like the Bach still does).

Oh well, My 2ยข.
